Smiles For The Mirror

Moonlight poured in from the window, casting over her slim, narrow figure. As she carrased the frame of her mirror, the amount of details engraved into them almost made her overlook the reflection of the mirror itself. Keyword being almost since it was still difficult for her to ignore the glowing mess that casted off the glass of the mirror.

It was precisely midnight now. She checked many times; roughly about six or seven times, she didn't keep count. It didn't matter either way. One or two minutes off wouldn't matter, at all. Her hands grasped onto the candle lighter tightly. Directing it towards the tip of the candles that surrounded her and watching as the small flame grew brighter and larger.

Once her preparations was ready, she set her mirror just beside her and, for one last time, tried to perform a smile.

One last smile for the mirror?

No.

It didn't work. Too forced she would say. It kept faltering; her lips were quivering too much. And her face just kept rejecting the smile. Though she does agree, it looked out of place.

A sigh escaped. This only added more to what she had suspected. For she is simply out of place as well. Very well, then. It's this harsh reality which she has gotten accustomed to. Such things like these couldn't effect her anymore.

The mattress was soft, it seemed to have accepted her. As the rest of her body just seemed to slowly sink into it. It felt right at that moment. It hasn't been ever since she met — him. Yes, the excitement of their first meeting is rushing back in, surging through her blood. And then the cold breeze brushed past her and the moonlight had once again dawned upon her.

Right, no distractions.

At first, it was painful. Then, it stopped and it felt numb. Red liquid had begun to gush out and drip down slowly. Her hand quickly pulled out the blade she had carved into herself before all her limbs all dropped dead. Her last breath heaved before her eyes droop down shut.

Even dead, she was still frowning.

“Come back to me, my love.”

At first, she thought it was a dream. She thought that this was her blissful fantasy just repeating itself again. Instead, reality had finally revealed it's brighter side. This may not be what she had expected but nonetheless, she was still grateful.

“Love? I can't see myself in the mirror,” She called out to the man, genuinely confused, “Is there something wrong with me?”

He shook his head and gave her a smile, “No, my love. You're very beautiful even if you can't see it. But this is a small price to pay for our eternal happiness.”

She nodded.

“I'm just disappointed that I won't get to see my smile.”

A small smile curved onto her lips.
