My eyes snap open as I inhaled sharply, my right hand clutched my neck that had earlier been slit open by that rotten Fox. No more openings.

I was so pissed, more at myself than her, I got distracted. Luckily for me, my preservation spell worked, and I live again.

Unfortunately for me, It was morning already.
But I was lucky no one was passing this path yet.

After several attempts the portal spell worked, I hated the fact my powers always glitched as soon as I revived from the dead.

As I stepped out the threshold of the portal, my very disappointed roommate Devi, dropped her grimour. (an old spell book)

"Seriously Alyssa you got me worried" She folded her arms with a scrawl on her face.

"Chill out I'm fine" I tried waving her off but she wouldn't budge "Vasmatos motis," she said and my desk moved towards me, blocking the way.

I sighed with an eye roll.

"Another Preservation spell? Queen Mother taught us that spell for dire situations because it's black magic" she scolded pointing at the dead squirrel on my desk.

"I can handle expression Devi," I said and I rubbed my forehead. " I'm tired and dirty right now and I need to shower"

"You can handle expression can you hear yourself?" she walked towards the dead, rotting corpse of the squirrel. "Do you know what that does to you? You think it's so easy, a life for a life?"

"Last time I checked that's how it worked," I said she scoffed.

"We have had this conversation before, I'm stronger than you or your average witch so as long as I'm not breaking any rules, you don't get to preach to me" I barked at her.

"And what happens when a squirrel isn't enough anymore?–"

"Then I'll kill a bloody deer instead just leave me Alone! Devi!" I said in irritation and a scissor flew toward her shoulder with a painful-looking stab.

She gasped looking at it. We both exchanged looks.

"I'm so sorry I didn't mean to–" I tried moving round the table but she looked scared of me "You see what it does? It hurts people, it'll hurt you, and just because you got passed down the magic from your generations doesn't mean you are strong enough for the expression," she said in pain and walked out, a small droplet of blood following her.

F*ck.

"Okay" I sighed and looked at the mirror, it was the heaviest thing in the room, I used it when I needed to know how much control I had.

"Vasmatos motis," I said and the entire dresser with the mirror went up slowly, I slowly raised it to the roof, and slowly brought it down.

"Okay not bad," I said with a small smile, which suddenly crumpled up as I felt the warm tickling liquid itching from inside my nose, my eyes flew to my reflection in the mirror as my fingers slowly swiped the blood.

"What?" I gasped and the mirror shattered "Oh sh*t"

My rewarding shower didn't feel so rewarding anymore, maybe I needed to stop black magic, but unfortunately, it was the strongest form of magic against those monsters out there that I know.

But I felt worse when I got called by the Queen mother to her office.

"Well, Alyssa we wouldn't have given you your generational powers if we knew you wanted to go down the black magic path"

"I'm so sorry Queen Mother about Devi's arm I Just lost control–"

"And the preservation spells?" She asked with a brow up.

"I used those as a backup plan in case I get compromised," I said and She sighed.

"I know that sometimes witches have to clean up after other supernaturals to maintain the balance between humans and us but going out there and risking your life without proper training is the worst thing a witch can ever do"

"Yesterday was worse and I only went out there because it was a full moon"

"A blue moon Alyssa, it was very dangerous" she corrected me with a side eye. "If you don't know what you're going against I recommend you shouldn't get involved"

I stopped myself from rolling my eyes."Yes Queen Mother"

"There's a verdict, I've decided your generational powers be removed or sealed from you for a bit, whilst you focus more on other craft portion of being a witch, like potion making and self-defense classes," She said. I froze in my seat.

"No," I said firmly, she raised her brow at me.
"No?" She asked me again.
"No! These powers were kept through the generations of my family for me?!" I got up from the seat. "Self-defense you say? How's that going to stop a vampire blurring towards you?"

She got up as well, towering over me of course. "Care to show how much you can fight to keep those powers?" she asked and my eyes snapped open In shock at her.

"Don't be so shocked Alyssa, I too have generational magic flowing through my veins and I've been faced with the temptation of black magic" She walked away from her desk towards me "You think it'll make you stronger without taking something back?"

"I offer a life for the balance all the time" I managed to force out because Queen Mother was a lot more intimidating when she's on a low monotone.

"You think a squirrel is what it wants?" she chuckled to herself and looked straight at me again "It wants your soul, your powers, your control, your empathy, and ultimately...your humanity"

I looked down at my palms, sweating bullets.

"I'm so sorry Queen Mother but I cannot lose my powers, not with everything going on, Invisique," I said and got up. She wouldn't be able to see me now.

"You have forced my hand, Alyssa, just know that," she said and started chanting. Everywhere started spinning and the more I tried to leave the office the more dizzier I felt until I fell to the ground.

The last things I heard were the click, clack sounds of Queen mothers heels till she was a blurry sight "Sleep well child"
