the news

I walk home from hell

well not literally hell but something people call a school

I'm not complaining or anything

 who am I kidding I'm definitely complaining

I brush some strands of hair and adjust my posture before opening the door

I'm engulfed into a massive hug from my two favorite people

No, not my parents

You wish....

It's my siblings

today they are a bit hyper ... A little too much

But if there this excited it means my   mom's not home

and trust i'd rather live with a bunch of pigs than survive a day at home with just her 

i have two siblings 

tyler and maya 

Tyler is the older older aged 10 years . he plays basketball  but most of the time he is annoying 

Maya is our youngest sibling and she just turned 8 years . Despite her beauty she's pretty smart

I mean not smarter than her grade but smart smart

my name's katie, the oldest of the two .  i'm thirteen and play basketball

they both let me go and allow me to enter the room

"You take forever to get home" maya whines as she follows me to the living room

"It's because school takes forever when you are in my grade" 

I pick her up and start tickling her and she bursts into giggles all until our mother walks in

"Children . What is the meaning of this . I expect you to change out of your uniform after school. Hurry on now and go change out of your uniform, i have some news to tell you" 

''of course she'll ruin the mood ,'' Tyler mumbles as we make our way upstairs 

Our mother has always been like this. 

barely home , always demanding and i swear i've never seen her smile

We slowly make our way downstairs and occupy 

''i'll be brief ,'' she began as she took a seat opposite us 

''there has been a guy i have been dating for a while and last night he proposed to me ,we will be moving to their house and i am getting married in the course of the month,'' she exclaims before leaving us 

we sit down in silence neither of us knowing how to react to the news 

i mean how could she do that to dad, she promised him ,she said she will love him forever

It's only been a few years

I slowly make my way  downstairs trying not to wake Tyler and maya even though they are deep sleepers

I enter the kitchen and grab a glass of water

 i couldn't really sleep

we are leaving tomorrow 

"What are you doing up this late" a voice spoke from  behind me

"Oh it's you 'mother' I can't believe you would scoop that low to cheat on dad'' i say as i seat on the  counter . ''You're still married"

"Don't talk back to me. listen here young girl, you don't tell me what to do. Not you ,not mr clumsy and definitely not that ugly Betty you call your sister ,'' she snarls at me

Before I could fire a nasty comment I had sniffling

I tilt to the side  and face my mother to see a little figure behind her

''katie was she talking about me ,'' maya asks tears streaming down her face 

"Of course not maya" i tell her 

''but we don't have another sister ,i am your only sister ,stop lying ,'' 

of all the times she chose to be smart ,it had to be right now 

''Don't lie to her of course we were talking about you ,'' my mother tells her 

maya runs off ,the only sound being heard is her huge cries and my heavy feet running after her 

but not before flipping my so- called mother 

i pity the man who proposed to her
