"Ahmed..we've barely even talked to each other, how do you expect me to be okay with this?"
He looks up at me and I see a flash of hurt in his eyes before he scoffs and turns away from me. "I don't give a fuck Laila...I just didn't want to cause issues between our families. I could care less about you."
He was lying through his teeth. He looked so tense as he stared out the window pretending to be unaffected. I walk up behind him. "hey...look" I say as I put a hand on his back. He turns around and his eyes soften when he looks at me. I never noticed how deep his eyes were. They were a shade of hazel mixed with some dark brown specks. His eyes dart to my lips momentarily before looking back into my eyes. We're so close to each other that I can feel his warm breath on me. I look down at his lips. My heart starts racing. Why is my heart racing? get a hold of yourself Laila, he's just your cousin. I take a step back and his eyes follow me as I walk towards the couch. I shakily sigh as I take a seat and catch my breath. He follows.
"I just...I'm just not looking for anything Ahmed, I have my whole career ahead of me you know? and I don't mean to come off rude but you're just kinda..."
"what?" he says looking at me with curiosity.
He raises one eyebrow and I giggle.
"You think I'm a fuckboy don't you" he says laughing along now.
"I mean come on..." I retort leaning back into the couch. He mimics my movement and stares up at the ceiling.
He moves his hand to his side and it's just slightly brushing against mine. He licks his lips and my heart starts racing again. He looks so thoughtful staring up at the ceiling. He finally looks at me with furrowed eyebrows.
"What if....we gave it a chance Laila?" He says.
I look down at our hands side by side slightly shocked. "What do you mean?" I ask, knowing full well what he means.
He moves his hand over mine and traces down my hand. He has no idea what he's doing to me with these simple movements. I feel like I'm on fire all over as I try to catch my breath. I hope he can't see what he's doing to me.
"I mean...what if we tried to really get to know each other, what's the harm ya know?" He tells me, finally looking up.
I can't focus with him being so close to me, the cologne he's wearing taking over my senses, his deep intense eyes staring at me, and his hand softly tracing my palm.
"I...I think that I just need to think about it" I finally let out shakily.
"Take your time Laila, I'll always be around" he says getting up and picking his keys up.
"Text me?" He says in his low gruff voice. What has gotten into me.
"Sure" I nod as he walks out the door, his hands in his pockets. He looks back one more time and smiles warmly, his hazel eyes lighting up as he pushes his hair back and walks out.
What have I done.
