the sun shone brightly on the dull tarmac pavements of camberwell. the children were out there again; they always were, playing tag or using two people's garden gates as football goals, or perhaps even inventing a game. but today, the intense game of footie had ground to a sudden halt.
the new girl from the corner house, skye, was sitting on the ground and clutching her knee, wailing.
'hey tammy, i think you tackled her too hard.' jadon turned to his friend, who stood blushing beside him. tammy reluctantly walked over to where the girl sat.
'i'm sorry i tackled you too hard.' he stammered abashedly, offering his hand to help her up.
'it's alright.' she smiled wanly at him through her streaming tears. jadon and a couple of others ran to skye's side to help her towards her house.the game continued once skye had gone inside to get her knee patched up, but 8 year old tammy couldn't get her smile out his mind.
