for once, tammy and skye were the some of the only ones not crying. they made eye contact through the chaos, sharing an eye roll.

'guys!' skye yelled, 'what on earth is going on?'

'he stole my toy car!' five-year-old brady wailed, glaring at his older brother, seven-year-old jack.

'did not.' jack muttered, sticking his tongue out at his brother and sparking another outburst of screaming, which in turn set off one-year-old autumn, who had been snuggled calmly in tammy's arms.

'i thought we were the most emotional one in the family...' tammy muttered. skye burst out laughing.

'at least we never cried over toy cars.'

yes, it was messy. yes, it was loud. yes, it was the most hectic thing either of them had ever experienced. but it was family.
