How are you liking my experience with books? I hope you are enjoying it. Keeping up with the tradition, today I would be writing about another book which I read a few days back. There is no bigger satisfaction for me than reading a good book. It gives me immense pleasure and I would like to share that experience with you.

So, this week I would write about a book called 'Darkness'. It was originally written by the famous Marathi writer, movie and play producer-director and a self-taught artist, Ratnakar Matkari. The book is translated by Vikrant Pande. He is famous for translating many famous Marathi works and have brought it to the national level. Darkness is another gem of translation from him.

The stories written by regional writers always strikes a chord with the readers. So, when I saw this book, the first thought that came to my mind is this book would rightfully serve the purpose of giving me the chills while reading.

This book is a collection of eighteen short but spine chilling horror stories. They set the stories in different timelines, and every story is unique. The best part of it is the book depends upon the scary storyline to create an atmosphere of horror and mystery. The first story sets the path for an interesting read. Darkness has all the ingredients to be called as the classy horror book.

Out of the eighteen stories, I would like to talk about some of my personal favourites which really gave me the chills while reading it, not to forget the intense story with the unpredictable twist.

The first story, 'Birthday' is the perfect start to the book. Talking about predicting the death, the story is a real mystery.

'By the clock' takes you to a mysterious bungalow owned by a mysterious lady and her dark secrets.

'The Heir' is a story about two friends and a past they share of which they both were not aware of. The story takes them to a journey to a building which one of them is to inherit.

'Monsoon Guest' is a story which is merged with a historical tale of a demonic king. The mystery reveals around in the present times in between three persons in this story.

'Vampire' is not the normal vampire stories we read or see. A different take on the story with a bloody twist in the end.

'Prayer' is nothing like the name of the story. It is a horrifying chilling mysterious story of a lady and her prayers. There is a death involved in it which creates a sense of terror in the people in the story, and the story takes a twist.

'The Man on the Bridge' is a psychological horror story which revolves around an old servant and a new arrogant owner of the house. The owner sees some visions which make him believe that those are real until when something out of the blue happens, ending the story in a completely twisted way.

'Two Kids' is a strange story where two mysterious children appear in a house for help. But the owner of the house has other intentions and gets ready in his plan when something horrible happens in that house.

These were my personal favourites. Not that other stories were not good, but these stories would surely run a chill through your spines. Ratnakar Matkari is a master storyteller who has spun a tale of horror, mystery and a spine chilling thriller.

The stories are written in such a crisp manner that none of the stories would leave any unanswered questions to it. The description of the scenes, the characters, are so well written that you can imagine the scenes while reading it.

The main component of a horror story is the element of surprise, and Ratnakar Matkari does not leave a chance to surprise us in all the stories. The mystery revolving around the character builds up the story and at the end when the mystery is revealed it leaves you sweating from your forehead.

At 218 pages, Darkness is a page-turner with every story promising a thrill of a new kind. With so many unique stories, the book promises to be an awesome read for all lovers of horror stories.

Recently, I started reading horror stories and was looking for a nice book when I stumbled upon this book in the book fair. I immediately purchased it without thinking much and I would say the intuitions to purchase it paid off. If you are intrigued by the content of it, I would definitely suggest that you should read it.

Until I upload my experience with another book, till then take care, be safe and keep on reading. Cheers.
