The whole world came crashing down for all of them. Greg was left completely speechless, feeling guilty by the minute. Pearl sobbed even harder than before and was about to collapse. Her legs felt weak as she fought to keep her balance. Amethyst watched from afar as tears welled up in her eyes

Greg finally gathered the courage to speak again. "...Can we go see him?" The doctor nodded and lead all of them to Steven's room. He had entire room to himself 

When they arrived, they found Steven laying lifeless in the bed. There were wires coming from him in all directions. He was connected to a heart monitor, blood pressure cuff, and a ventilator to make sure he's still breathing

Everyone just stared at him in awe as the doctor explained. "So far there is no sign of brain activity but his vitals are normal. I'd recommend coming and talking to him. People in comas can still hear what you're saying despite not being able to respond. It'll help with his brain activity. So talk, sing, do whatever you can to engage."

Greg simply looked at the doctor and smiled. "Thank you." The doctor smiled back, nodded, and left them alone for a while

Greg grabbed a chair and sat at Steven's bedside. He held his son's hand and rubbed it with his thumb. "Hey buddy, it's dad. It'll be okay. We'll be here for you. I'm sorry if anything I did caused you to act like that. I promise I'll try to be better. Whatever you need I'll make it happen. I love you schtuball." Greg gently kissed his hand and stood up

"We should probably head home. We can visit him again in the morning." Garnet and Amethyst followed him out while Pearl still stood there. She remained frozen in place as she stared at the boy

Amethyst noticed and turned back around. "Come on P, you should get some rest." She took the gem by the wrist and dragged her out of the room. Pearl blindly followed, an emotionless expression on her face. She couldn't even cry anymore. All that was left was an emptiness inside
