Pearl and Steven warped to the Strawberry Battlefield to spend some quality time together. They stood there holding hands as the blinding blue light faded out. Pearl guided him along the path. "Isn't this beautiful Steven? This is one of my favorite places to unwind in." She continued dragging him along with a huge smile on her face

Steven surveyed everything around him in awe. "I never thought strawberries could get so big." He had stars in his eyes. To be honest, he wanted to eat one of them. They looked so delicious. And right on cue, his stomach growled ferociously. "Guess it's lunch time. Hey Pearl, could I try a strawberry?"

She put her hand on her chin thoughtfully. "Hmmmm...alright. But just one. I like to preserve this place as much as possible."

Steven gladly ran over to one of the strawberries and tried pulling it out of the field. He gave it a few good tugs but to no avail. Pearl walked towards him and summoned her spear to cut the vines. The sudden movement caused Steven to lose his grip and fall flat on his back. Pearl couldn't help but laugh a little. And Steven laughed with her as he shook the strawberry juice off his hands. "Ulch." He exclaimed

As Steven ate, Pearl crouched down on her knees next to him. She silently admired the sky above them. It was late afternoon and the sun was beginning it's decent. When Steven finished, he sat cross legged next to her. "Today has been great. Though I feel a strange connection to this place."

Pearl laughed nervously. "Well we did have a few missions here. In fact you went on one of your very first missions here!"

"Whoah. Really?"

Pearl nodded. "Mmhm. You brought along your small ukulele haha. At the time I found it annoying. But now.....I kinda miss it." She smiled sorrowfully as she reminisced

"Well, where is it?" Steven questioned

"It's probably back at the house."

"Maybe one day I can play it for you." Pearl gasped and blushed. She honestly wasn't expecting that reaction

She looked back at him and smiled. "....I'd like that."

A few hours passed and the two laid on their backs stargazing. Pearl showed him all the constellations and pointed out where certain galaxies are. Eventually they just laid there silently with their arms behind their heads. Simply enjoying the moment

Then Steven cut in. "You know I may never know who my real mother is, but ever since I came back you've been more of a mom to me than anyone else. It's...nice." Pearl was rendered speechless and could only stare. "It feels a bit weird but I'm glad."

"Heh. I'm, happy about it too. Thank you Steven." She felt a little embarrassed and blushed. Steven suddenly let out a huge yawn so Pearl stood up. "Looks likes that's our cue. Let's get back home."

Steven's eyes were only half open. "Aw but I'm so comfortable down here." He whined

Pearl merely chuckled. "You'll be a lot more comfortable in your own bed. Come on sleepyhead." She reached out her arms to help Steven up. He met her half way and grabbed her hands

They walked side by side back to the warp pad. Steven lost his balance a bit so Pearl wrapped his arm around her neck. They warped back in the greenhouse and headed towards Steven's bedroom

Pearl let go of her hold on him and kissed him on the cheek. "Get some rest. I'll see you in the morning."

Steven sat on the bed and stopped her before she could leave. "Wait!" She looked back at him over her shoulder. "I gotta say Pearl, being a Crystal Gem is a dream come true. Not sure why I would reject it. I wouldn't have it any other way. And I'm glad I live with you guys." He gave a bright and prideful smile

However it only made Pearl feel guilty. She returned a somewhat weak grin and proceeded down the stairs. "Yeah. Goodnight Steven."

"Night Pearl." Although she couldn't see, he waved goodbye in her direction

She quietly closed the door behind her. With her hand still on the door, she closed her eyes and sighed deeply. She softly whispered to herself. "I can't do this."
