A tear falls onto the paper.

She folds it back up and places it under her pillow.

Y/n knows that she isn't going to sleep at all tonight, but she might as well just lay down anyways.

A warm stream of tears flow down the side of her face and puddles onto the pillow.

What am I gonna tell them? I lied about my past. How am I supposed to come back from that? They'll kick me out and I'll be back living on the streets.

She closes her eyes tightly, trying to erase the thoughts.

I didn't lie to them... I just didn't tell them everything-

Is that any better?

She lays there lost in her thoughts.

It wasn't until a few minutes later that she realized the boys had started to file into the bunk room.

She looks around at the boys. They don't seem to notice that she's awake.

She quickly buries her face into her pillow so they don't see that she's crying.

"G'night boys." Race says as he unlatches his suspenders. He glances up at the girl, noticing she shifts quickly, burying her face in her pillow.

He smirks and leans on her bunk.

"Heya y/n? Ise know youse awake." He chuckles, rubbing her back.

She doesn't respond.

He laughs.

"I'm sorry, what was dat? I can't seem ya hear ya wit ya face in da pillow." He says, starting to worry just a little.

She hums in response, not moving from her spot.

He shook her shoulder a bit.

"Y/n I'm serious what's da matta?" His voice raises a bit, filled with concern. He shakes her more.

This draws the attention to some of the other boys. They look over at them.

"Leave me alone Race." She grumbles. Her voice muffled by the pillow.

"Is somethin wrong?" Cructhie limps over.

"God DAMMIT!" She yells, shooting up from her pillow and glaring at the boys.

"Yes god dammit something is wrong. You happy? Can you please leave me alone now?" She spat. This outburst causes the boys' eyes to widen. They are all a bit taken aback.

The girl in front of them, the girl who is almost always cheery, is staring back at them with red puffy eyes and tear stained cheeks. Her hair was a mess and her eyes were bloodshot. To be completely honest she looked rough.

Race takes a step forward and reaches his hand out to hers. She retracts it quickly. She jumps down from the bed, reaches under her pillow, and then runs to the window.

She shoves the paper in her bra and climbs to the roof.

A few boys try to follow her.

"You know what boys, Ise think Ise should handle this." Crutchie states, waving off the few boys who started walking to the window.

He climbs out and makes his way to the roof.

Every boys face is solemn.

Their ray of sunshine had gone dark.

Their girl was broken. And that fact broke every one of them along with her.

Nobody says a word as they finish their routine.

Nobody says a word as they crawl into bed.

Nobody says a word as they lay there. Every single one of them knows they aren't going to get any sleep.

At least not until they know she'll be okay.

Crutchie reaches the roof.

He looks over to see the girl curled up in a bawl, against wall.

He shuffles over to her and takes a seat beside her.

She lets out a sob as he wraps his arm around her and rubs circles on her back.

She leans over onto him. Her head falling into his lap.

She lays there as he rubs her head; running his fingers through her hair.

"I lied." She whispers softly after a few minutes. Her voice still shaky from crying. His fingers stop as he thinks for a minute, before starting back up.

"About what baby goil?" He asks softly.

"I didn't lie- I just- didn't tell you everything about my past." She says sitting up.

She reaches in her shirt and pulls out the paper.

She hesitates before handing it to him.

He slowly unfolds it.

His eyes widen.

"What does this mean?" He asks, not looking away from the photo on the paper.

She stays silent for a minute before telling him everything.

"Oh-" he says, just above a whisper. He looks down at his hands.

A tear falls from her eye.

"I knew youse would be mad." She says, barely loud enough for him to hear.

He looks up at her and then grabs her hand.

"Hey hey hey it's okay. Ise ain't mad. Ise could neva eva be mad at you, ya hear?" He says in a very serious tone.

She looks up at him. He gives her a half smile.

She can't help it. The corners of her mouth turn upwards ever so slightly.

He pulls her into a hug and they stay there for a minute; rocking back and forth under the beautiful night sky of Manhattan, New York.

The cool breeze blows. It feels nice.

Y/n smiles a little, tightening her grip on Crutchie. More tears fall, dampening his shirt. She thinks about how everything just might be okay.

"Now all wese gotta do is tell the othas."
