Part 17: Goodbye

It's weird when people grow up. When a person you know leaves or changes, because they need to. It wasn't a permanent goodbye, but it was still a strange feeling.

Some of her friends would be going to school with her in the business field. She wore a dress that looked sort of like overalls and a white shirt underneath. The blue tips of her hair had faded into a light blue over June. She seemed to be having a good time based on her smile.

Some of her friends had rented out the building next to Brian's Bakery for a going away party for the seniors. To keep the cost low they had asked if everyone coming could bring a dish. Looking at the table I could tell there was way too much food for everyone here. Some of the things they brought were vegetable trays, fruit trays, crock-pots full of food, and a cake from the bakery. There was no shortage of sweets here either.

Most of the guests here were seniors, but there were some other people our age here too. Candy, Eddie, and I stayed close to each other most of the time since we didn't know anyone that well. Candy stayed especially close, since she was trying to avoid Michael after their break-up. Apparently they had gotten into an argument and they couldn't find a solution. I can't picture Candy yelling at someone though.

Eddie wore his Letterman jacket and a pair of shorts, while I wore a hoodie with the sleeves rolled up, so I wouldn't get too hot. Eddie's dark colored jacket looked funny when he was standing beside Candy's pink dress. Though her dress was a casual one, it still looked too formal for an event like this.

"I told you, it's not my fault this is the only thing I could dress up in!" she pouted. "It's not like you dressed up at all, Eddie!"

She crossed her arms.

"Hey! We're hanging out with seniors that are leaving us this year. How is a school jacket not appropriate!" he defended.

"Quiet down you two. We all look like ridiculous juniors in general. We can only look so much worse," I said annoyed.

The two of them had been arguing over little stuff the entire time. It's almost like they were doing it on purpose, though I think they were. It was more entertaining than this party.

Someone in the crowd yelled "Limbo! How low can you go?"

Two guys were holding a meter stick as a limbo stick, and people lined up to give it their shot. Most of the guys including Eddie and I joined, but many of the girls didn't participate. Fiona's friends had all joined the game, and I watched Fiona walk over and start talking to Candy. As they were talking I saw Fiona and Candy glance towards Eddie. I assumed my theory from earlier about the two of them purposely arguing was correct.

"Eddie, there's no way I can slide underneath that," I said looking at the bar. Most of the guys had failed already.

"So? Let's do it anyway!"

He slid underneath the bar, and I rolled my eyes for attempting it myself.

"Whatever!" I relented as I bent backwards.

It wasn't long until I was laying on my back. Everyone laughed as Eddie pulled me up, and I walked away.

"Told you I couldn't."

I joined Candy and Fiona, and they quickly changed the subject when I came near. I honestly wondered what they were talking about, but I didn't worry about it.

"Do you think you're ready for four more years of school?" Candy asked. "I don't know, if I would be!"

"Ehh. Sort of, though I'll probably do something with music in college. If I want to own a music shop like Jason, I'll need to be able to understand some more complex subjects," she stated.

"Do you know where you'll work after college? Like, does your family own a business that you can take over?"

"Yeah, my mom runs a accounting firm, but I really don't want to take over that!"

Time flew by, and soon we all had to say our final goodbyes. Eddie stayed back as I thanked Fiona for the guitar lessons, and for being a terrific person. It also seemed like Candy and Fiona had gotten closer during the party, because Candy gave Fiona a hug as she cried. On that note we all left, and we wouldn't see her for a long time.
