KHUSHI

It had been a week since Arnav and Aman left for their trip, we usually talked daily, he would video call me and tell me about the things he did the whole day and he seemed very happy, it was like this trip was the best thing to have happened in his life so far.

I was so glad that he was finally happy, he was healing and soon he was going to be perfectly alright. Talking about this week for me, it had been difficult, I mean I was so used to seeing Arnav every day or at least once in every two days so now that he was away from me, I realized how much I missed him.

I sat in my room just thinking about him when Ananya walked in, she settled down beside me.

"What's up, what are you thinking about so seriously?" She asked.

"I think I want to get married to Arnav." I looked at her with a smile.

"What? You've never mentioned marriage. Wow, this is surprising and exciting too." Ananya hugged me happily.

"I know. I mean all this while I hadn't even given it much thought but since Arnav left for the trip, I've missed him like crazy and I don't feel like spending one more day apart from him.

I mean this is the perfect moment, everything is so good and back to normal and I am ready, maybe if he is ready too then we can decide to get married." I said.

"I don't think this is the right time Khushi. Don't take me wrongly, I do want you two to get married and be happy together and I'm sure that's what he exactly wants but if you think about it, this is not the time.

He's still on treatment, he isn't fully well yet, and I think he just needs to be on his own until he is perfectly okay. This might make you both happy but then it's something big too, at one point or the other, it might end up interfering somehow on his health.

I'm not saying you should never get married, just wait until his doctor says that he's finally okay, and maybe if you still want to do it, consult the doctor first and ask her if it's okay to take this step while he's still on therapy." Ananya looked at me nervously, I knew she was scared that I might get mad at her but I also knew what she said was true.

We had waited this long, maybe we needed to wait a few more months and we could get married.

"You are right Ananya, and I think I'll visit Dr. Roopa and discuss Arnav's condition with her so I can know the progress too."

"Thank God you understood, I thought you would get mad." She giggled.

"You are my best friend Ananya, I would never get mad on you, I know you'll say what's best for me." I hugged her tightly.

*****

So like I had decided, I visited Dr. Roopa and discussed Arnav's health with her, she was happy about it, she said he was making great progress and if things continued like this, he was going to be well in a couple months.

Apparently, they had even had two sessions on video call and she said he seemed pretty happy and relaxed, it was like this trip was what he needed to get well.

So I asked her if it was the right time to pop the marriage question to Arnav and just like Ananya said, she also wanted me to wait for a while, it was just a couple of months anyway.

She said she would know better once he was back from his trip and they had a few sessions then she would let me know when their last session was going to be, after that Arnav and I could decide to get married.

I was so happy and excited about this, since always this was what I had looked for, true love and I found it with Arnav, and all I wanted was to get married to him, have my own family.

A family I never had since I chose this profession, the love that I never had since I chose this profession.

One day Arnav just walked into my life and gave it all to me, the love I yearned for and soon we were going to be a family, I couldn't wait for that day to come.

The doorbell disturbed my thoughts, I walked out of my room and headed to the hall where I saw Aditya walk in.

"Hey." He smiled at me, I walked towards him and greeted him with a hug, we hadn't met since we finished our project together, it had been a while.

"Oh look who finally remembered me." I said as I broke the hug.

"Yeah right, at least I decided to pay you a visit unlike you, who dint even bother to check on me."

"Oh come on, don't pout now. I've just had a lot going on." I sighed as I walked towards the sofa and he followed me, we both settled down and just then Ananya walked out of the room all dressed up.

"Hey, what a pleasant surprise Adi, when did you come?" she asked.

"Just now."

"Oh great, I wish I could stay but I have a date, so I'll see you some other time, you should be visiting us more often." Ananya smiled at him.

"What date? How come I don't know about this date?" I looked at her.

"It just got decided a while back, don't worry, I'll tell you everything once I'm back. Okay got to go, see you later." She waved goodbye to both of us and headed away.

"So... Where's your boyfriend?"

"He's on a trip, he would be back by the end of next week."

"A trip without you? I was expecting some good news when I came here, like maybe you two finally getting married but things seem opposite, he's gone on a trip without you?" he looked surprised, I don't know why it always surprised people when couples wouldn't go for a trip together instead they went with their friends.

Like there were other more important relationships in life too, love is important but so is friendship.

"Everything is great, in fact better than before, and just because he went without me, doesn't mean we are unhappy."

"I know Khushi, I was just kidding."

"Great. Anyway are you hungry? I can tell the servants to cook something?"

"Sure, we haven't had dinner together for a while, it would be great and I also have some news for you."

"What news? And why is it that you always visit me with news? Someday you should just come because you want to spend time with me, your great friend." I giggled.

"That was my intention, the news just came along." He smirked.

"So what is the news?" I asked curiously.

"I'm getting engaged in two weeks."

"What? You're kidding!" I was shocked, I dint even know he had someone in his life.

"No I'm serious. We actually just met a while back, let's just say I was tired of this whole dating and trying to find a match things so I left it on my parents. They found me a girl, we met and talked and everything seems great."

"You mean arranged marriage? What happened to the Aditya I knew? He would never go for arranged marriage."

"Well we all changed dint we? I mean even our parents had arranged marriages. It's not about love or arranged marriages anyway, if you find the right person even an arranged marriage can work out and with the wrong person, love marriage wouldn't.

She seems like a great person, we have similar thoughts and interests, everything is good and I thought it was time for me to settle down so I went for it."

"Who is she? I want to see her, do you have a picture?"

"Yes I do but I'm not showing you. To see her you'll have to attend the engagement, and bring your dear boyfriend along so he doesn't have a reason to get jealous of me anymore." He laughed.

"Stop making fun of my boyfriend." I slapped his arm.

"I am kidding Khushi. But on a serious note, you both have to come okay? And when am I getting invited to you engagement?"

"Someday in the future."

"I would wait for that day then." He smiled. Well I was waiting for the day too, I hoped it was going to come soon enough.
