THE SMELL OF popcorn occupied Fia's unit. My fingertips were stained with cheese powder. Fia's eyes were glued to her flatscreen television.
"Oh my god, so you write all of them back," the lead girl said in amazement.
The woman nodded to her. "Yes."
"You're all Juliet?"
"Her secretaries."
We continued munching popcorns alongside sipping apple juice. We're currently watching a movie entitled Letters to Juliet. Today is a Saturday and Fia invited me to hang out-which meant movies and snacks.
Fia suddenly turned to me after the character said a line. "Dekko, would you agree to her husband? That love is nothing but hormones?"
I couldn't answer immediately. I paused for a while to think, and yet I came up with a petty answer. "I actually don't know," I shrugged. "Honestly, I have never fallen in love yet. My only basis was the relationship of my Mom and Dad."
"Oh, Dekko, you're so pure," Fia smiled.
"Ikaw, Fia? Do you think love is real?"
Napatingin sa akin si Fia bago bumuntong hininga. "Bago ko makilala si Kael, may naging boyfriend ako. He was my first love, he introduced love to me in a different way. I thought then we were perfect for each other..." Binalik niya ang tingin sa telebisyon. "I know what we had is real. It was definitely love."
"Pero alam mo, Dekko, hindi lahat ng love ay mabuti. May klase ng pag-ibig na kapag nasobrahan-nakakasama. Nakakasakit. Nakakasakal."
Fia looked at me in all seriousness. "That's why you should be very careful, Dekko. Don't let your emotions fool you."
I simply nodded.
The atmosphere between us went lighter as the movie neared the end. We were both happy with its conclusion. Fia and I went to her kitchen to cook some cheese sticks.
Nagprisinta akong magpirito habang si Fia naman ang nagbabalot ng mga cheese sa wrapper. Habang nasa kalagitnaan kami ng paghahanda ay dumating ang kaniyang boyfriend na si Kael.
"Pizza!" Fia excitedly shouted. "I love you talaga, Kael!"
Pinisil-pisil ni Kael ang ilong ng kaibigan ko. "Basta talaga may pagkain, mahal mo ako 'no?"
Pare-parehas kaming natawa sa sinabi ni Kael. Nang makita niya ako ay kumaway siya, masayahin at palabiro rin ito gaya ni Fia. "Hi, Dekko! Para sa inyong dalawa ang pizza. Don't let Fia eat the whole thing, okay?"
"Sinasabi mo bang matakaw ako?" tanong ni Fia kay Kael.
Yumakap naman si Kael sa baywang ni Fia. "No, baby. You're sexy."
Napaiwas ako ng tingin dahil masyado silang sweet. Hindi ko yata kakayaning panoorin silang maglambingan. Aaaa...ako ang namumula sa ginagawa nila.
