How did Petey even know about this place. Tina saw the look on my face and she knew what to do immediately we went and got drinks the boys were already done with their second drink. Me and Tina got something strong that could take all the thinking away.  We weren't going to get messed up just a little buzzed.

"This next song is for all the couples grab your partner and get your groove on." The DJ said playing Smokey Robinson Ooo Baby Baby. I watched as Ronnie got up and walked over to me holding out his hands. I took as he lifted them unto on his shoulders he placed his hands on my waist there was no space between the two of us. We swayed back and forth.

"Petey watching us." He whispered in my ear

I turned around to see Petey mean mugging me and Ronnie while dancing with some girl. I decided to not give into his jealous attempt. I rolled my eyes and wrapped my arms Sunshine neck. Ronnie caught on bringing his hands to my butt I bet he was furious I kiss Ronnie not caring if Petey caused a scene or get mad. Before I knew it we were having a full makeout session Ronnie grip got tighter. We pulled back obviously feeling the drinks kick in. We decided to sit down I sat down on his lap eating a couple of chips.

"Hey me and Alan are going to head out." Tina said winking which meant they were about to have sex it was girl code for when we hit puberty. I waved goodbye to Tina and Alan.

"You wanna get out of here and go back to my house." I said smiling

"Thought big mama was driving us." He asked

"Yeah but I don't feel like waiting plus I don't have time for the drama tonight with Petey." I said grabbing my bag Ronnie nodded grabbing my hand and we walked out of Big Mama's. We walked down the street and got stares from people but I didn't care I was young and in love. We were holding hands walking down the street until a group of guys spotted us. I quickly looked and looked away.

"Let's go this way Ronnie" I said leading him across the street from the guys and the following I sighed and turned around heading for Big Mama's but more guys showed up circling us in.

"You got some nerve being in this neighborhood." One of them said taking a toothpick out of his mouth

"Yeah you crackas try to steal our music, our soul and now our sistas." Another said giving another one a dab on the fist as I wanna do something freaky to you played on the boombox I looked at all the bottles on the ground

"I don't want any trouble." Ronnie said holding my hand tighter than before I felt bad putting Ronnie in these situations. Why couldn't places be more like school or big mama's.

"Ole Petey was in Big Mama's talking about some cracka took his girl." they said crackin their knuckles as if they were about to beat up Ronnie

"Petey put y'all up to this?" I asked folding my arms

"I sure did." Petey said the girl was gone he probably left her drunk and tispy in Big Mama's with all those horny men.

"Petey take your ass whoopin like a man you lost." I said angrily Petey was getting on my last nerve this was the last straw jump him a neighborhood he's never been in

"Petey you know this cracka?" The guy said

"Nah I don't know the white boy but the girl is mine." Petey said yanking me from Ronnie grasp I watched as one guy held Ronnie arms and another one held him by the chin tears welled up in my arms I was helpless not helpless I was useless I couldn't help Ronnie I cried at the top of my lungs screaming.

"I want ya hit my nephew gone head I double dare ya." I heard Big Mama's southern accent by the guys holding her small gun she called her protector. They guys let Ronnie go I pulled away from Petey running to Ronnie hugging him

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry. We should've stayed at Big Mama's." I said crying

"It's okay, I'm willing to take a beating for you." He said I knew he was smiling. I heard it in his voice as he spoke he truly meant he would take a beating for me.

We got up and headed back to Ronnie's dad car but before we left I stopped to whisper to Petey

"If you ever pull that again or even think about Ronnie I will cause you so much pain you'll wish you were dead. Petey you're dead to me get it" I spat on his shoe and walked away from to the car me and Ronnie were cuddled in the back seat as Big Mama talked what happened

"Light Skin brother you caught yourself a blessin if I had followed that ole petey out your eye would be blacker than my flesh ya hear me." She said laughing

"Thanks again Big Mama." He said smiling

"Thank my niece she chose you and I's protect my family." she said smiling flipping on the radio Nat King Cole Unforgettable played. The night was perfect, the moon was positioned right and the warm breeze hitting my skin even though petey tried to ruin it he couldn't still would've been perfect. Big Mama sung along with Nat
