It has been a month since the big mama incident and Pete's little scare tactic on Ronnie I was fed up with his stuff everyday it's something different with him get over it buddy I don't want you. It was thanksgiving week and I wanted to invite Ronnie over for dinner but did not if he had plans with his dad already. Tina interrupted my thoughts with a question about Alan

"So I was thinking maybe I should invite Alan over my house for thanksgiving or go over to his house." Tina said smiling walking through the hallway blushing at the mention of his name

"That would be nice but does his or your parents know about you guys dating." I asked about putting my books in my locker.

"Not really I mentioned I had a boyfriend but never told them his color and same with him " She said

"Ummmm I think you guys should sneak off and have your own thanksgiving together and you ya know" I said laughing and winking as she shoved my arm and rolled her eyes.

"Oh shut it I see right through you miss goody goody I know all about you and Ronnie's secret escapes from class." She said laughing she wasn't wrong either me and Sunshine started occasionally ditching school just to see each other. It was only way before November approached school was divided and we decided to not show much public display of affection in school after the whole Pete incident at Big Mama's because we knew not everybody would accept us. Plus Petey started the rumors about Sunshine saying he can go into any neighborhood he wants.

"Mmm don't forget the game on Friday." Tina said eating some candy

"I won't be I'll be bundled up with my Sunshine Jersey." I said smiling

"Hey Jaz." My brother said behind us

"Hey Rev what's up." Tina said

"Nothing much just here talking among my two sisters." He said leaning against somebody locker next to mine

"Sisters....?" I said looking at Jerry like he was crazy

"Yeah we've known Tina since she was a baby. I think it's time to adopt her into our family." Jerry said

"Really???!?!? Meaning Thanksgiving at y'all house.. wait can I bring Alan?" She asked her eyes getting bigger and bright

"Yeah my parents don't care about color, just respect." I told Tina smiling

Some guys walked past from the football team and I heard something I shouldn't have

"I see why they call Ronnie "Sunshine" he's gay." One of them said

"Yeah I heard he kissed Gerry in the showers during training." Another said

"I feel bad for his girlfriend word like that going around school and here you are thinking he's all yours but he's really playing for your team." Another said they all burst out laughing once they saw me they stopped laughing and walked by fast.

"Petey give it up." I heard Jerry say lowly

"How'd you know it was Petey?" Tina asked

"We all were there and Ronnie was joking because Gerry called him a fruitcake when he showed up to training because of his long hair. Petey gave him hell about afterwards because they were roommates during training." My brother said

"Ugh Jaz don't let this upset you Petey just being an ass." Tina said rolling her eyes

"I'm not trying to figure how to ask Ronnie over for thanksgiving or should I ask to go over there." I said smiling

"Well there's always a solo idea." Tina said laughing and walking away

"What's the solo idea?" Jerry asked

I laughed not replying to what he just asked if only he knew he would bust a brain cell. I walked to my next class when I walked in people whispered and mumbled but stopped once I walked in. It didn't bother me because this was part of the high school experience rumors and jealousy but most of all we never knew when school would go back to being a race war.

Ronnie walked in class sitting in the desk next row close to mine and then there was good for nothing Petey that sat right in front of me. Of course he would sit in front of me just to hear me and sunshine's conversation so he could have something to tell the team if I knew any better I would think Petey was in the closet. Who does all this for a girl that doesn't give them attention.

"Today class we are going to have a debate and relieve some of these frustrations I see in the hallways so I need all the whites on one side and all blacks on one side." Our History teacher said coming into the class

Everybody scooted their desk to one side of the room; this was a recipe for disaster.

"Now I know this school is integrated but let's think if we wasn't if we lived in the 50's and 60's where whites hated blacks and vice versa I wanted you to really get things off your chest both parties need to participate in this group discussion and I will be giving feedback now I going to play two types of songs and you tell me your feedback on it. So this going to be a whole day experience the principal already approved it. There are signs for whites only and colored only throughout the school you can not talk to another until experience is over so colored will hangout with coloreds and whites will hang out with whites so separate your desk from each other and that's all for class today talk amongst yourself. I looked at Tina, She looked back at me. This was going to be a long day in school So i figured if I couldn't talk to Sunshine I'll talk to Tina and My Brother the whole day. The bell rang and it was time for lunch. We walked in the cafeteria and Mr. Jones was right, we had different lunch lines and different tables to sit at. I sat down looking at lunch losing my appetite so did Tina. I never knew how my social life would be this boring without Sunshine. I looked at Sunshine who sat next to racist Ray and Gary. He smiled at Gary but his eyes caught mine. I blushed and looked away before anyone caught us.

"Man I love history." Petey said sitting down at out table I knew this would make him think I would talk to him

"Petey get a life." Tina said throwing down the cold French fry on the tray

"Ooo Is Tina and Jaz mad about their white boy lovers? They can't talk to them either, it's a sad day." Petey said mocking us

"Petey fuck off okay I'm not in the mood." I said pushing my tray away

"Why you found our you're precious sunshine is gay." He whispered

I looked at him and drew my hand back smacking him as hard as I could the sound echoed in the lunchroom everybody head turned to see the drama filled scene play out Petey jumped up and swung his hand back like he was going to punch me I closed my eyes there was no more to save me this time. I waited for the impact to hit me but it never happened I heard a voice I never heard before.

"Petey you trippin if you don't put this hand down." Julius said sitting down at the table I sat down and so did petey and everyone continued their lunch. I peeked over at Ronnie's table and saw his head down but his hands were clenched into tight fists.
