"Stefan?" Caroline asked, her feet pitter-pattering against the cold floor as she ran into the compound, blue eyes widening as she searched for her best friend. She was met with Klaus and Elijah talking with Stefan, the conversation looking very serious and Elijah's face giving nothing away. Though Klaus looked happy to have his friend back.

"Care!" Stefan turned his head from the conversation he was having, locking eyes with his official sober sponsor Caroline Forbes. He practically ran to her as caroline engulfed the man's much larger body in a hug, "I can't believe you just up and left without saying goodbye!"

"I know and I'm so sorry!" caroline hugged Stefan tightly, burying her face into his neck and inhaling deeply.

something about Stefan always felt like home. it was familiar and she always knew he brought no surprises. their friendship was purely that. friendship. she never wanted nor expected anything else and there was a sentiment to that.

"I just assume you must be here since Klaus is the only person I know that could make you go up and out of the blue to a different place," Stefan whispered against her hair, pulling back slightly to offer a cheeky grin.

"oh stop it! I only did it because I don't want us all to die! besides he's it an adorable baby now and you already know my uterus is screaming at her little eyes." caroline laughed lightly, turning to face Hayley as if to say 'i'm jealous of your cute child'

"well, I've decided to stay here until you come home, can't have you forgetting about your promise to keep me sober." Stefan teased gently, nudging her arm with his elbow.

Klaus was glaring at the pair with a fierce intensity, jealously bubbling up inside him and rising like bile, he'd never felt like this before, "enough of the pleasantries, let's talk about the plan."

caroline looked at Klaus suspiciously, still slightly mad at their earlier fight. though she couldn't help the flattering feeling that brought a dusty pink into her cheeks, "okay."
