Northern academy

Blaze:
The applause is somewhat special. I mean, normally, back in the Eastern Academy that was, I would make an ironical bow to the crowd and to the Seniors watching. But the way Grand Master Vulcano claps at my performance, is different in character than I’ve seen before. Down by the wall, I see Rain getting up slowing as he’s looking at both of his wrists that are now badly burned. I’m even surprised to see them that burned. I guess I didn’t notice the actual heat I was putting on. What I do know now is that the Grand Master and his Master Elemental are rather impressed by both of our performances. As I’m making my way towards the bench, I can see Breeze is still somewhat shaken after his battle. He’s going to need a lot of rest. He better get well soon. We’re not going to play around where we’re going.

The session ends in its usual fashion as Senior Pool walks over to the Grand Master and the Master Elemental of Wind. I can only guess their topic is me and Breeze coming with them to finalize our training for the field. Breeze is resting his head on top of my shoulder as he’s having trouble sitting up straight by himself. I on the other hand hold to my right wrist that I suspect has been sprained by Rain’s water-beam. After a while Pool comes back towards us as he helps Breeze stand up. “Alright, you two, I’m going to get you to the hospital for a quick check-up before heading to the aircraft.” He says.

“But wait…what about our things back at our quarters?” I ask him as I suddenly come to think of it. I didn’t pack my things before leaving for the session, although I probably should have considering I already knew I was leaving this place. Why I even care is somewhat beyond me. I wouldn’t miss most of those things, but one: my sister’s necklace. There’s no way in hell I’m leaving this place without it. “They’ve had someone from the aircraft crew packing your stuff while you were showing your powers to the Grand Master. On the trip to the new academy you’ll have plenty of time to see through it and rid yourself of everything you don’t need. You only get to have a few personal possessions over there.” Pool says.

I notice a couple of eyes following me as we’re making our way out of the session-room. I know it’s the Grand Master and that unnerves me a great deal. “Are you okay there, Blaze?” Senior Pool catches me somewhat off guard as I’m stuck inside my head for a moment. “I don’t know…I mean physically I’m just fine. Trust me, a sprained hand really doesn’t come close to bother me…” I answer as I leave the sentence hanging. The other thing, about the Grand Master, it’s something that I want to say, but I don’t know if I can. It’s not Pool himself, I’ve trusted that man with my life for over a year, but I don’t know if I’m in a position to do so.

“But…?” The Senior goes on. But then again this is Senior Pool. I know I can tell him anything. “I’ve noticed some particular looks from the Grand Master since I entered the room. We made eye-contact for a short period of time and then on the podium he…” But I can’t continue. I don’t even know if I should be talking about this out loud. “…he spoke to you telepathically, didn’t he?” Senior Pool then asks me, straight to the point. We’re just by the hospital when he asks. I look up at him for a moment. “Yes, he did. I bet you know what he asked of me as well…”

He nods weakly as he leaves Breeze with a doctor on the bed closest to the door before following me a few beds down to another doctor. The doctor examines my wrist, twisting and turning it, and before you ask, yes, it bloody hurts. He comes to the same conclusion as I have myself and goes to find some bandages for it. “Yes, I know what he asked of you. However I was really proud to see that you didn’t follow his wishes. You’re gonna have to keep doing that because he will ask you again…” Senior Pool then says. I immediately get the feeling that he has some suspicions regarding Breeze, me and the Grand Master…the bigger picture that is, but he doesn’t seem open to share them.
