"Trust me, Amy. The place where I work is not proper for a girl like you. Men will always try to get your attention and the only thing they'll want is to f you."

"But I'll just be the cleaner. Mary, I need a job. Otherwise, I'll sleep on the streets."

Both girls were relaxing on Mary's sofa, eating pizza like the old times.

"Cupcake, you deserve more than being the cleaner in a studio filming porn."

"I know. I just need time to raise money and then perhaps look for something else."

"My place is always available to you. You can stay as much as you want."

Mary was her last hope in Los Angeles. There was no one else to help her and as for Sarita, she didn't want to cause her any more trouble.

"Have you contacted your father?"

"No, I have no idea what he's up to recently."

"It's strange he hasn't bothered you again."

"I believe he found some money."

"You should call him, Amy."

Maybe Mary was right. No matter what has happened between them, she had to show the least interest and call. She had made three calls and he had never responded.

"He is fine. He doesn't want to talk to me. That's all."

"If you say so."

In five hours it was the wedding and Amy was trying not to think about it all day. Pointless. Carter's image was in her mind all the time.

Mary left for work leaving her alone at home. The least she could do was prepare her a good meal to find it when she returned home. Then the doorbell rang.

"How...how did you find me?"

"Elicia told me where to find you."

She let Marvin come inside still wondering what was he doing there in a day like that.

"Aren't you supposed to be at the wedding preparations?"

"You had the audacity to write me this stupid letter without saying any goodbyes," he said throwing the letter on the floor.

"I...I couldn't stay, Marvin."

He stood up and crossed his arms looking outside the window.

"I know how you feel about Carter."

"Really? And how I feel?"

"In love."

"You can't say those things without proof."

"I don't need proof, fool. But let me finish. He loves you too."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I've raised this boy. Linda trusted me to be beside him at every moment of his life."

"You aren't now."

"Cause I'm with what he loves. He was obsessed with success and money. But right now, he seems more miserable than ever. He woke up with nerves and he didn't even want to try his groom suit."

"What are you telling me, Marvin? Why are you here?"

"To help you stop the wedding."

Amy laughed almost hysterically. She had no intention to humiliate herself by calling off a wedding. Besides Carter had never shown any affection but only desire. Who was she to do such a thing?
