Part 28 -Let the masks fall

Not only Claudia stayed on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but she has succeeded to make her presence noticeable acting like she has depression. 

Amy almost fought with Carter trying to warn and convince him about Claudia's intentions. 

"I can't just kick her out, Amy! She would be dead right now and her doctors advised us to be careful with her for a little longer." Carter said sitting on his office desk with his hands in his hair.

"I don't trust her. She is pretending to be vulnerable while she takes great satisfaction annoying me and torturing Debra with her unbelievable requests!"

Carter's sarcastic smile couldn't be hidden. After New Year's Eve, he wasn't so warm with her. He didn't even come to her bedroom to sleep together. Instead, on New Year's Eve, Claudia pretended that she wasn't feeling well after the change of the year and asked him to accompany her to the bedroom. 

They didn't even kiss that day due to the other's presence. 

Also, most of the time he was working hard in his office talking on the phone about a new collaboration with a similar company. The only thing he was murmuring all the time was how remarkable is this new project and how things would change for everyone.

Amy was really surprised by his ambitions and high expectations. This explains how he turned his father's business into a huge empire. But she wasn't like this. She wanted to make her dreams come true but not sacrifice her own personality and neglect her people to do it.

"Do you think I'm concerned if this Debra is annoyed with what she is ordered to do here? Cause it's her job to do what I ask."

Before answering back what she was about to tell him, she took a deep breath and sat on the chair opposite his.

"I accepted to be with you here hiding our relationship for some time. But lately, you act like you own me and do not care if Claudia annoys me too. I can't sleep calmly at night cause all I think is you touching her hair while sleeping together in your bedroom. Confronting her. Telling her that you love her. I can't stand this anymore!"

"You have a wild imagination, Amy. You are fully aware of my position here and I sleep on the little couch of my bedroom. This situation isn't good for me too."

"Then tell me why you're so distant after Christmas? Why haven't you come into my bedroom and sleep like a normal couple?"

"Cause we aren't a normal couple! We keep this secret, remember? What do you want? If Claudia finds out then she will be here like an eternity."

This conversation wasn't going anywhere. He was so focused on his work that all these seemed like excuses. Maybe he was still attracted to Claudia. Maybe he changed his mind.

"I didn't want to bring this up like this but you leave me without a choice. It's either me or her. Decide before I leave permanently."

"Are you threatening me?"

"Yes, Carter, I am. You seem so distracted and so cold towards me that...anyway. I'll go serve your supper...with Claudia." she lowly said not hiding her disappointment anymore. 

To her surprise, Claudia had already been at the dining table waiting to be served.

"You! Come here," she ordered. 

"It seems you found yourself!" Amy dared to say.

"How dare you, a maid, talking to me like that?"

Amy put her hands on the table in front of her and leaned to her glittering face. She was so disgusted by this woman's impeccable face. Her lipgloss was too much making her lips bigger and her smokey eyes deepening her evil stare.

"You are a clever woman, Claudia. I admit that. You think that you can win but I will make sure you'll leave till the end of this week. Everyone here knows I am the future lady of this house. You are just a problematic person that everyone pities. But I don't pity you." she said looking at Claudia intently all the time.

"At last! You revealed who you really are. I knew that behind that innocent pale face you were hiding something darker. We are the same my dear and we both want the same things too."

"I have nothing in common with you. I don't pretend to be sick so others will feel sorry for me."

"Yes, but you pretend to be the maid. Or no. You're the maid having hallucinations that you'll be the lady of Sutton's property. You are the maid. Nothing more."

Amy's face was burning from anger. All of a sudden she was not agreeing with Carter and Claudia was telling her a big truth; since Carter didn't say she was his fiance, then she was still a powerless maid. She didn't want to be a powerful lady on Carter's property. She wanted to be a lady in his heart. 

She asked Debra to serve the sweet couple letting Claudia win this time. Amy needed some fresh air and even if it was freezing cold outside, she grabbed her coat and walked to the patio in the small forest where she spent some time with her father. 

"Why are you here alone?" a man's voice made her turn. It was Gerardo.

"What are you doing here?"

"Happy New Year for you too," he said and smiled with his usual casual expression.

"If Carter learns you're here-"

"He called me to come back here. There is some business running and my lovely friend needs me as always."

"Then it's true," she murmured.

"What is it?"

"He's very busy working lately."

"That means exactly what?"

Amy sighed but she couldn't hold her thoughts for her only. Geraldo was a descend man and would understand.

"I'm in love with him and we were supposed to be as a real couple. I came back only to be with him, Gerardo, but he doesn't appreciate it anymore."

"I knew he would destroy everything."

"So you know..."

"About your relationship? Everyone knows silly! Even Linda!"

"Claudia is still here."

"Of course, she is. She won't lose her time."

"What...what should I do? Carter doesn't show me the same interest these days."

"Let me help you with this."

"How?"

"We pretended to be a couple once...for this guy... what's his name..."

"Garrett."

"Yeah, that's right. The gardener. So we can do it again."

"I can't follow you."

"We're going to make my best friend get jealous and Claudia will think you're not a threat anymore."

Amy hugged him without a second thought! She loved this new plan and maybe it would really work. All they needed to do is perform the role of lovers!
