Spotlight#53:Mage and Demon Queen

Have you ever seen a trope did so lusciously it hurts? If so, then Mage and Demon Queen by Color_Les is just the right webtoon for you.

Summary

In a fantasy world filled with nearly infinite potential, adventurers usually partake in the average activity of going up said tower to defeat the mighty Demon Queen. However, one particular adventurer has a more peculiar goal in mind. To win the hand of the Demon Queen, no matter what it takes! It may be the very thing that kills her, but she will try to persevere!

Characters

Malori: Enter our main heroine, a young woman who has seemingly endless potential and magical power. She might be the person with the best shot at killing the Queen, but she has different goals. Effectively Malori has an utter obsession with the Queen and wants to win her love at any cost. In general, though, she prefers demons over humans due to her background and wants to make them better.

Queen Vel: Also known as venomous Demon Queen Velversoa, is a tsundere in the making. She is violent, arrogant, easily excitable, and stubborn. However, part of her initially trusted humans, and despite Malori's constant interventions, she grows more fond of her by the day.

Cerik: Malori's best and only friend. Cerik does have a weird quirk just like Malori but is far more level-headed and reasonable. However, Cerik's goal in life is to kill Malori for all her bs maybe and see a Lamia in stockings.

Overview

Mage and Demon Queen may be one of the funniest webtoons I've ever read. It holds no respect for the genres and shows it is ripping off and happily bashes them with no mercy. Rpg/Iseaki elements like summoning someone from another world or inappropriate status updates get used incredibly often.

 Another hidden feature I do like is how much humanity the demons get given as they all have their motivations and quirks about the Queen and love Malori like a close friend through her constant climbs up the tower. The general worldbuilding of M DM is also excellent since it shows the conflict of demons and adventurers very well, simultaneously showing how the tower affects the world at large.

Finally, I might as well say it here that Malori is probably the best version of the whole "hopelessly obsessed in love" trope. This has mostly to do with a couple of factors. First, Malori is very self-aware of her crush on the Demon Queen and tries her best to win her love naturally. Two Queen Vel reciprocates these feelings. 

Three Malori have a good reason to fall in love with the Queen, and four, she still gets critiqued for her unique approach at length as well. Overall, these factors make Malori and Queen Vel's relationship incredibly entertaining and surprisingly nuanced as they do fall for each other as the series progresses.

 Also, a comedy series has a surprisingly detailed anime-like art style that creates incredible fight scenes. The series also seems to be getting only more complicated as the series goes on.

Epilogue

Overall, Mage and Demon Queen is a very fun and awesome webtoon. I recommend it for any fantasy/comedy or Yuri Fans as well. So with that, I've got one last rainbow-colored spotlight to close off pride month.
