THIRD PERSON'S POV.
River approached the door of Anubis House, out of breath and tired mainly because she ran over there in fear of getting caught. Amber wasn't waiting outside of the passageway like River previously thought, so she must've been at the house with the others. Where else would she be?
River opened the front door and stepped into the entrance hall, arriving just in time to find Alfie, Fabian, and Patricia standing there. Despite the oddly relieved faces her friends held, River sent them all glares as she rebuked, "What happened to leave no man behind?!"
"Look, we're sorry, but we thought you guys were in front of us," Fabian apologized.
"Well, you thought wrong."
"What happened?" Patricia asked.
"Well, Amber and I hid in the main room of the gatehouse so they didn't catch us," River explained. "And I ran all the way here and it's not fun running in the dark—"
"Wait, wait, wait," Alfie quickly cut her off, earning a glare from the girl. "You ran by yourself? What about Amber?"
"She wasn't in her hiding spot so I assumed she was here," River informed them. She noticed her friends' worried faces which only caused her to do the same. "Isn't she?"
"No," Fabian said as he, Patricia, and Alfie shook their heads.
River's face dropped in shock. "What?!"
"We thought she was with you."
"Well, she obviously isn't!"
"So that's it, then," a panicked Alfie concluded. "She's still at the gatehouse!"
"No, no, no. We don't know that for sure," Fabian said. River threw him an incredulous look. He was surprisingly calm about this whole situation. "We can't assume anything."
"We need to go and find her now!"
"We can't go back there! Denby's there!" River stated, frantically throwing her arms around. Yes, she was worried about Amber, but bragging into the gatehouse would gain a lot of alarms from Miss Denby.
"We can't just leave Amber there!" Alfie argued.
"No, listen, you need to calm down. River's got a point," Patricia spoke up. "Besides, Amber is probably hiding in a cupboard. And Miss Denby finds her, what's she gonna do? Detention? Big deal."
