the old man told the young man
that he must not let the past trap him
otherwise their fate will end up similar
the old man says
that he cannot even go back
out into the world
and that he is always stuck at one place
he further lectures
that when someone is
trapped in the past
it would be impossible for them
to see the door
hence, they will never be
able to get out
since they are trapped
the young man thought of it thoroughly
then he recited a line from his favorite book
it says —
so, don't forget all of it
remember it all and overcome it
if you don't overcome it
you will always be a kid
whose soul never grow
we are always tempted
to escape and forget
or we are always urged
to remember and relive
the only way that the past
can take a hold of us
is when we don't recognize
and accept who we were
painful experiences bring
strength in character
but without acknowledging
one's weakness at the time of pain
we can never forgive ourselves
we can never forgive others
maybe overcoming is forgiving
forgiving ourselves first
forgiving others next
when we overcome
then the past
will lose its power
to trap us
