their quarrels stacked like bodies, one on top of the other.

they fought and screamed at each other, often drawing blood. it was a constant struggle for power and domination, and neither of them wanted to back down. yet despite their constant arguments, they remained together.

taehyung pampered jungkook with priceless gold and diamond. he showered him with gifts, hoping to buy his loyalty, perhaps his affection, and sometimes even his forgiveness for when their fights escalated too far.

money could buy everything, right?

but all the gold in the world was not enough for jungkook. to him, jewels and riches were nothing more than chains in a materialistic world.

"everose rolex for you baby," he smiled boyishly, presenting his lover with his latest gift.

jungkook accepted it silently, his smile as empty as his gesture.

taehyung noticed his lack of appreciation and sighed in dejection. "you don't like it?"

jungkook's eyes drifted away from him. "you know how i feel about your presents."

"yeah, but i'm not gonna stop," taehyung stepped closer. "i'd buy you anything you want. all the sapphires and diamonds in the world for you."

"they're worthless to me."

taehyung clenched his jaw and stepped away. "what do you want from me then jungkook? besides this wretched game, what's not 'worthless' to you?"

"i want answers," jungkook shot back. "why do you hate when i play out my characters?"

when taehyung didn't respond, he threw his hands up in frustration. "you're a fucking actor! you play doctors and detectives in your stupid movies and yet you hate when i play out different roles? it doesn't make sense to me."

taehyung simply blinked. his eyes were unreadable, as they always were. he could hide the truth as well as jungkook could twist it.

"you're a hypocrite," jungkook gritted out.

taehyung sighed and stared at him through hooded eyes. "jungkook," he whispered his name like it was a secret. "isn't money enough for you?"

jungkook couldn't help but roll his eyes. he was sick of the way taehyung always divagated away from his questions. sick of the way he treated him like delicate treasure. he wasn't his little pet to control.

shoving his present back in his hand, he turned his back and began to walk away. if his lover couldn't cooperate, he hardly understood why he had to. he was too tired to fight him over this again.

"because i feel like i don't know you," taehyung finally said, his voice echoing throughout the house.

jungkook stopped in his tracks and turned to face him once again. his figure hid in the darkness of the hallway like a crying shadow.

"you take on so many personas, it feels like i'm watching a television show unfold right in front of me," he said on the brink of tears. "yes, i'm an actor, which is how i know that characters are nothing but drawn-out lies. i hate it because it's like you're hiding behind every character, every fake friend you create. but you don't have to hide from me, we've been together for a year now. and yet you're still a stranger. sometimes i fear you're just a figment of my imagination."

"i'm not," was all jungkook said, his voice barely above a whisper.

"then who are you really?" taehyung asked softly.

taehyung had sung for him. he had killed for him. he had fallen for him, and yet he didn't know him.

for once, jungkook's snappy mouth had nothing to say. he had asked for an answer he wasn't ready to hear.

taehyung let out a deep, soul-wrenching sigh and closed his eyes. "it's been a year jungkook, you know i'd do much more than just kill for you."

he was a poet in the shadows. behind tainted gold, kim taehyung was a lonely soul reaching his hand out desperately for a true companion.

"i would burn cities down for you."
