Chapter 8: More than a band

Ellie's POV

*****

As I woke up the next day I couldn't help but ask myself whether the events that had unfolded the day prior were just part of a very vivid dream.

Not only had I just had my first ever serious fight with Leah, but Blake had also somehow managed to book us a gig for the next day. Despite not fully agreeing with the idea that the gig was to happen so soon at first, their words quickly managed to change my mind.

"I thought we came here to have a break from everything," I had said right after Adam suggested for us to spend some time rehearsing the next day.

"No, Ellie," Blake said after taking a swig from his water bottle, placing it on the kitchen counter and turning to look at me. "We came here to try and get your mind off of everything, but if this gig goes well, I'm certain that everyone will change their minds about you."

I thought about it for a moment, feeling bad that because of my situation, they were giving up on a full day of fun just to rehearse. Appreciating all of their sacrifices, however, I nodded my head, leading the guys to erupt into cheers.

I knew that after all of our rehearsals back home, we did not need to spend the entire day doing so, but it still seemed so sudden and I didn't know if I was ready for the gig. I was nervous to say the least, and I was certainly petrified of the results.

I was never one to overthink things. I liked to simply go with the flow, try to accept everything that life threw my way. Nonetheless, it was hard to do so in that situation. Every eyes were going to be on me. The audience, the producers, James.

If I choked up and played one wrong note, it would all be over.

Trying to shake off all of the horrible thoughts which were occupying my brain, I got up from the bed and made my way towards the bathroom Leah and I were sharing, knocking to see if she was in there.

After having received no answer, I walked in and took a shower, changing into my clothes for the day and walking downstairs to the kitchen to make some breakfast.

The boys were already sitting around the table, munching on their cereal and laughing about something, before they turned to look at me and cast me a smile.

I frowned as I looked around and realised that there were no signs of Leah there either. I felt horrible for what went down the previous day. I did not mean to make her feel like she was a bad friend, and I feared that she could have been still mad at me.

It was hard to apologise to somebody when there were nowhere to be found.

"Good morning," I groggily said, not yet having fully woken up, despite the shower I had just taken. "Do you guys know where Leah went?" I asked as I poured myself a bowl of cereal and added the milk before sitting down next to Adam.

I couldn't help but notice the weird looks the trio gave each other, before looking at me with a frown. Seeing the looks on their faces scared me, and I instantly felt my heart sinking. I knew that whatever it was they had to tell me, it was not going to be a good thing.

Blake cleared his throat before looking down at his bowl momentarily prior to looking at me, his eyes locking with mine. "She called her parents to come get her. We caught her leaving as soon as we came downstairs."

All of the air inside my body felt as if it were being sucked out. I knew that we rarely argued, but I still felt bad at the fact that she decided that she would rather leave the cottage instead of wanting to talk it out with me.
