Peonies are most important in Chinese culture; the stunning flower is an official emblem of China and plays a considerable role in many holidays and religious traditions. It's the flower with the longest continual use in Eastern culture and is tied in deeply with royalty and honor in those societies. The Chinese name for "peony" even translates to "most beautiful". Oddly enough, it has somewhat of the opposite meaning to Western individuals. Greek myth states that nymphs would hide their naked forms in peonies to shield themselves from prying eyes, leading to the association of peonies with shamefulness and bashfulness during the Victorian era. It had also been considered downright unlucky to dig up a shrub of peonies during the Middle Ages due to associations with less than kind fairies. Regardless, like most flowers, the meaning of the peony can differ depending on the hue of its petals. For instance, pink peonies are some of the most romantic flowers, often being used within wedding ceremonies and table arrangements. Red peonies, unlike red roses, have the strongest ties to honor and respect, as well as being symbolic of wealth and prosperity within certain cultures. White peonies, or even those that are of pale pink, hone in on the bashful aspect of a peony's meaning, making them almost perfect for communicating regret over embarrassing oneself or another. All peonies share one thing in common, however - their delicate beauty.

Wednesday, 5:53 a.m. - three days until acceptance letter is received

Your eyes slowly opened, greeted by unwanted sunlight that had begun filtering the window blinds, as well as the lightly textured, white ceiling of another's room.

Squinting, you propped yourself up, tired legs swinging over the edge of your childhood friend's bed. The soft, darkly colored sheets moved around you, still warm from your slumber. Reaching your hands up to meet your face, you attempted to wipe away your tiredness, a small yawn escaping your lips as you then stretched.

Blinking, you took note of the absence of the skirt you previously donned, as well as the presence of a rather baggy, well-worn shirt that just about covered half of your bare thighs.

Well, this certainly makes it seem like you and your pal got a little hot and heavy last night, doesn't it?

His room remained rather dim despite the few rays of sunlight that had managed to sneak in, his possessions remaining masked in a dark film. Honestly, you wouldn't expect someone as vocal as him to have such a pristine room, but it would make finding your way in the dark much easier, no?

Letting out a small sigh, you slid yourself off of the bed, mourning the absence of his warm, fluffy comforter. You definitely need to ask where he'd gotten his sheets, they were downright heavenly to sleep in.

Your feet hit the cool paneling of the floor, lifting to take a step forwards, only to be met with a rather loud, and rather deep, yell.

"What the fuck?!"

Letting out a loud squeak, you hurried to take another step, a painful sounding crack meeting your ears.

You had stepped on a person.

Correction, you had stepped on a very, very angry pomeranian.

I've never been more proud.

Said male attempted you lift himself up while you remained on his poor back, too stunned to react properly. That's why, as your body had begun to fall forwards due to his movement, you didn't realize until it was too late.
