I felt elated that my bet worked. We quickly rushed in & closed the door behind us. The lobby looked untouched & clean as I scanned the room. I called out for people but only got my echo back. We all took a moment to breathe until a gun clicked. We turned our attention to the hallway at our right. A older man in sweat pants & a grey t-shirt pointed a rifle our way.

"Anybody infected?" He yelled

"One of our group was. He didn't make it." I answered

"What about the cure? Did they make it?" He asked

"She's here. Getting stronger." I replied

"Mind showing me? I still think I'm dreaming." He ordered. Lori instinctively held her closer & mouthed no.

"Lori, please." I glared. She reluctantly stepped forward a bit as Carol took Carl.

"Holy shit." He mumbled before getting closer

"How long since the infection?" He asked as he scanned her face. She was less sweaty now & had more colour to her face.

"Two days." I answered

"Why are you here? What do you want?" He stated as he edged away

"A chance." I said

"That's asking an awful lot these days." He sighed

"I know. But I think we have better odds than most." I argued as everyone nervously watched

"You all submit to a blood test. That's the price of admission." He brokered

"We can do that." I agreed

"You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once this door closes, it stays closed." He warned

We quickly grabbed our bags & rushed back in. True to his word, he sealed the door with the shutters. VI then cut the power, darkening the lobby.

"Rick Grimes." I introduced myself

"Dr. Edwin Jenner." He greeted before leading us to the elevator. We had to cram in a bit but it was wide enough to be comfortable.

"Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl asked

"There were plenty left lying around. I familiarised myself. But you look harmless enough." He semi joked

"Except you. I'll have to keep my eye on you." He teased Carl, making him smirk

Eventually, we reached our floor & were led down a series of sterile white hallways. I was a little nervous seeing anything close to a hospital setting. Lori didn't let up on keeping Lila close. Her motherly instincts were on overdrive as she held them both.

"Are we underground?" Carol inquired

"Are you claustrophobic?" He replied as we kept walking

"A little." She answered

"Try not to think about it." He advised as we went approached a dark room

"VI, bring up the lights in the big room. Welcome to Zone 5." He called out

A large overhead ring lamp slowly turned on. We could clearly see rows of computers on a main circular stage. But, it was empty just like the entrance. I was hoping that the deeper we went there would be people tucked away. The constant emptiness was making my heart heavy as I worried that this was the wrong call.

"Where are all the other doctors, the staff?" I asked as we walked to the stage

"I'm it. It's just me here." He shared
