Today was the day. The combat and rescue sections of the entrance exams would begin in a few hours, and she felt certain that she was prepared, or at least prepared to the best of her ability. She had a fair idea of what the exams would hold based on their descriptions given beforehand. The written exam would follow in two days and then the results would be sent back to all the applicants within two weeks. She just had to give it her all and hope for the best.

Stepping past the UA school gates, she shivered in the early spring morning chill. Umiko never liked the cold, it made her hair freeze over sometimes when she had her quirk activated, and that was not a feeling anyone would want to experience. Alongside with the shivering, of course, Winter was her least favourite season.

Pulling her coat tighter around herself, she walked into the building, feeling relieved as she felt blasts of warm air melt her extremities. As she made her way to the assembly hall, she couldn't help but notice a messy head of ginger hair bob up and down around the crowd of applicants, before disappearing as quickly as he appeared. Something about him seemed to stand out from the rest of the crowd, and it wasn't his bright orange hair. Ignoring it, she continued forward.

Once she was seated in the hall, she listened as the principal began explaining the exam. The woman was, to put it simply, an explosion of colours. Despite the fact that she was wearing a formal suit, her shoulder-length blue hair with red streaks and green eyes stood out along with the assortment of flowers that were in her hair. Umiko also couldn't help that notice that the woman was wearing mismatching stripy socks. For a principal, she definitely didn't look as serious and scary as most would expect her to be. In fact, she looked so cheerful and aloof that she couldn't help but think that this woman was just a kid like them.

"Welcome, welcome all prospective students to the UA entrance exams! My name is Ms Nishida and I'm pleased to see all your shining faces despite the chilly weather. I expect that you all feel on the edge of your seats right now, so I won't keep you waiting and I'll just begin explaining the exam right now before some of you explode with eagerness," she smiled.

"The first exam is the combat exam. All of you will be split into many groups randomly, and each group will be put into a maze. These mazes are filled with robots that are worth different amounts of points. The closer you are to the centre of the maze the more points the robots will be worth, though they'll be harder to fight. The point value of the robot will be painted on it, and to receive the points you have to either destroy the robots or immobilize them. Any questions?"

The room was silent.

"Alright moving on. Next, the rescue exam. This one is a little different. The school's battle centres have been revamped into disaster zones replicating a city that has been hit by a severe earthquake. Actors of all ages have been hired to play as civilians that have been caught in this disaster. Your job is to save as many people as you can and lead them to the safe zone at the entrance of the building, but don't think of these people as actors. Think of them as real people who need a hero. You will all be recorded so that in the end, all the teachers will look back at the footage and give each applicant a score out of 10 per teacher."

"I assume you all understood that well enough, so without further ado, good luck!

Standing outside in the cold once more, she waited for the whistle to blow to announce that the combat exam was beginning. She looked around at the crowd of teenagers around her, watching them all talk between themselves excitedly. Out of the blue, the same ginger boy who she saw earlier locked eyes with her and just grinned at her. She turned away, somewhat fazed at his sudden smile. Did he know her to be smiling at her like that?
