Sleeping lover ✨

I push open the door to Kals room, hesitantly.

It's dark in here.
So very dark.

He's sleeping on the bed with wires and machines connected to his body.

He's been like that for three weeks.

But now, I need to say goodbye to him.

I sit down next to his sleeping body, and take his hand in mine.

"Hey, Kal." Is all I can get out before breaking down sobbing.
"I m-miss you."

I trace a hand down his sleeping face.

"And it's been hard without you. So hard." I say.
"And I can't do this without you."

Another tear slips down my face.

"B-but I'm gonna have to. In fifteen minutes we r-reach Octavia. T-There, I'll d-die."
"I'm so, so sorry, Kal...I love you."

I turn and leave before the pain gets too bad.

But if I had stayed a second longer, I would've seen his eyelids flutter awake.

With a final scream, the last planet dies.

I fall to the floor, almost in slow motion.

"I-I did it. I k-killed it..." I murmur, before I go into the black.

"Hey, Aurora." A deep voice says.
"I miss you..."

He sighs, and I feel his hand in mine.

"You have been under for almost six months now. And it breaks my heart to think that you may never recover."
"And if you do recover, you will be blind."

What?

"I love you, Aurora. I wish I had told you that more when you were awake."
"I wish I had more time with you."

My eyelids ease open, but I can't see anything.

"K-Kal? Are you there?" I whisper, in a cracked voice.

"Aurora?!" He cries.

"I'm...here..." I whisper.

I feel strong arms around me, lifting me up and almost crushing me.
"I love you. I'm so sorry—"
