legolas violently ripped his head in the opposite direction when aragorn and arwen kissed. he couldn't bare the sight, he knew he shouldn't feel this way. it was rude of him, but he couldn't help it.

it was hard enough to keep himself from sprinting away back to his room. legolas did his best to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground.

everyone was cheering, laughing, smiling. but legolas had salty tears stinging his face. which he hadn't even noticed were there.

when legolas turned his head back to where aragorn and arwen stood, he felt his body crumple, because he saw the pure joy lighting aragorn's grey eyes. the compelling passion that was put into their kiss. aragorn had never looked at legolas like that.

legolas's knees gave out and he fell to the ground, head is his hands. but nobody noticed, nobody cared. so he just sat there for a few moments, before he desperately pulled himself up and ran away. he didn't know where he was going, but he eventually found himself in that old, abandoned barn.

legolas curled up in the hay. which seemed to swallow him up and poke at his sides. tears streaming down his fair elven face.

legolas had a difficult time suppressing his sobs, he felt like he was about to burst. and eventually he gave up and let it out. he knew that no one would hear him anyway.

he wasn't angry at aragorn, he wasn't even angry with arwen. he was enraged with himself, an eternal battle that couldn't be won.

why did he have to be like this? legolas knew how truly selfish he was being, but he had no control over his feelings. and he couldn't just get rid of them, that's not how things work.

especially for elves, who could die of heartbreak. but luckily legolas knew he was far from death, he still convinced himself that there was a spark of hope.

but the more he thought the more he realized, there was no damn spark. that night, those shared looks, all of it, was just nonsense. a foolish dream.

all of a sudden he felt a rapid, sharp pain in his chest, which made him heave up his stomachs contents on the dusty floor.

legolas panicked mentally, but he couldn't stop. once everything in his stomach was gone he started to dry heave. spit and saliva bubbling out of his mouth, while he sobbed on and on.

he couldn't breath, couldn't think, couldn't move. eyes wide, legolas started to see black spots in his vision. and eventually his world turned dark as he passed out from lack of air and exhaustion.

the sword-maiden eowyn watched the reunion of aragorn and arwen intently, until she felt someone breeze past her. she whipped her head around just in time to make out long, silky blonde hair fly by.

she knew who it was immediately and she was quickly filled with curiosity. where was he heading? why was he leaving the coronation?

eowyn had always been cursed with foreboding curiosity, and it usually got her in some form of trouble. but she didn't care.

eowyn gently released her grip on faramir's rough hand and slipped into the crowd. she wasn't well known enough for the crowd to part for her. and she would be forever grateful for that. fame, in her eyes, was a burden.

it was hard to move in haste, with her dress on. she would much rather where a tunic and leggings. but it was only what was appropriate for a coronation.

she made her way to the direction she saw the elf head in as swiftly as she could. and eventually she had him in her sight.

at that moment she caught a glimpse of legolas's face, and she almost gasped. he was pale and his skin was stark. there were tears shimmering down his high cheekbones.

eowyn resisted their urge to call out to him, knowing that he would just bolt. so she kept following closely behind.

the lady of rohan turned back to the coronation to see how far they had gone, and as she turned back around she sighed in dismay, legolas disappeared.

eowyn spent the next thirty minutes looking for him, to no avail. she huffed with utter frustration. but just as she was about to start calling out, she heard wailing sobs coming from an abandoned building.

silence.

she dashed up to the entrance and put her ear up to the door.

silence.

eowyn slowly creaked open the door and took in the sight of what was inside.
