ABOUT:

Uttapam or ooththappam or Uthappa is a dosa-like dish made by rice, black lentils or semolina. Unlike a dosa, which is crisp and crepe-like, uttapam is a thick pancake, with toppings cooked right into the batter.It is very healthy and common breakfast item of Tamil Nadu.

Uttapam is sometimes characterized as an Indian pizza.

Preparation Time: 30 mins, Cooking Time: 15 mins.

INGREDIENTS:

1) 2 cup semolina.

2) 1 cup sour curd.

3) 1 teaspoon salt.

4) 1/2 cup water.

5) 1/2 teaspoon red chilly powder (optional).

6) 3 medium sized onion (Finely chopped).

7) 2 medium sized tomato (Finely chopped).

8) 1 piece ginger(Finely chopped).

9) 2 green chilly(Finely chopped).

10) oil for cooking.

11) 1 teaspoon coriander leaves.

METHOD:

1) Mix curd, salt and semolina with 1/2 cup water.

3) Mix onion, tomato, ginger, green chilly and coriander leaves in a seperate bowl.

4) Mix red chilly powder in batter(optional).

5) Heat a non stick pan/tawa.

6) Spread 1 laddle batter on non stick pan like pancake batter

7) Cook at low flame and grease it with oil on the corners.

8) Sprinkle 2 tablespoon of onion, tomato, ginger, green chilly and coriander leaves mix on the top.

9) Turn it to cook the other side when the first side turn little brown.

10) And cook other side for 1 -2 minutes.

11) If the batter sticks on a pan, add little salt to the oil and grease the corners so that uttapam will not stick on tawa.

SUGGESTION:

Cook it at low flame.

You can add any vegetable of your choice.
