"i hate boys" lemon groaned as she entered maddie's apartment. chase and maddie turned their heads to see lemon's puffy eyes.

"lem" maddie frowned as the couple both walked over to hug her

"what happened" chase asked as he rubbed her back

"he didn't say it but he implied that the lunch was not just as friends" she started to cry again in her friends' arms. she started to laugh through her tears "lemon once again crying over a boy who made her feel worthless"

"lemon, you're better than these guys treat you. you deserve the world" maddie said genuinely

"thanks maddie, just hard to believe after everything i've been through. i'm gonna go shower and lay in bed for the rest of the day"

after lemon walked away the couple sat back down on the couch, but didn't press play on the movie they were watching.

"what a fucking ass" chase groaned

"how could he do that to her?" maddie agreed

"i know he is one of my really good friends, but he sure is mistaken if he thinks for one second i'm on his side in this situation." chase crossed his arms

"i'm just shocked. i really thought they were so good for each other, but it really makes me question his character. i think once he truly matures and gets his head out of his ass, everything will be better."

"you would want her to go back to him after this?" chase asked curiously, shocked that she would want her best friend go back to a guy who made her this upset

"i'm a firm believer in right person, wrong time" maddie filled him in "they are right for each other but drew is still a little immature and lemon has her own struggles" chase furrowed his eyebrows at her last comment but let it go as she continued. "we should make him realize what he's missing"

"isn't that what we just tried to do? that failed horribly."

"i mean in a way that makes him want to be better for her" chase nodded, understanding what she meant. they sat in comfortable silence for a few moments before chase spoke up again

"what do you mean lemon has her own struggles? you've brought it up a few times but i've never understood"

"it's not really my place to say anything but it has something to do with why she never comes back home"

the rest of the day flew by, the couple only seeing lemon once more when she left her room to grab a bottle of wine and a bag of marshmallows.

the next day the cast plus lemon decided to go out to dinner. they sat lemon a drew on opposite ends of the table. they both had an unspoken understanding that they would ignore each other when out with their friends. well, lemon decided she was going to ignore him and drew didn't want to overstep her boundaries.

lemon, maddie, jd, and chase were conversing when an older woman step up behind them. "lemon hastings?! never thought i would see you back in charleston!"

"oh my gosh, ms. clemmens! it's so nice to see you!" lemon stood to hug the kind woman

"maddie cline? i could recognize that face anywhere" she smiled at the blonde

"it's so nice to see you ms. clemmens" maddie smiled as she hugged her

ms. clemmens turned to the rest of the group who were watching the interaction slightly confused, but assumed it was someone they knew while growing up "these two met in my kindergarten class, it was the start of their friendship. they were unbearable" she joked

"don't lie, we are your favorite students you've ever had" lemon laughed

"got that right!" she smiled "how is it being back after..." she trailed off at the end not wanting to bring up a sore subject. the group became confused at the older woman's sad tone and the way maddie and lemon matched her energy

"it's difficult, could be better but i have a lot going on right now" lemon referenced her failed relationship

"lemon you know to call me whenever you need something. i'll always be there for you" ms. clemmens smiled sincerely

"thank you ms.clemmens, it means a lot" lemon turned back to the group after sitting down. maddie pulled her into her side, giving her a slight squeeze. the room suddenly felt like the walls were closing in on her. "i'm going to get some air" she excused herself as everyone continued their conversations

as she stepped outside, she pressed her back against the wall as she started to cry. it was difficult having to be reminded of what she wanted to forget so badly, she just needed someone to be there for her. she heard the door to the restaurant open and felt a presence beside her

"lemon" drew said quietly, unsure of how she would react

"great" lemon groaned "just what i need"

"i just wanted to make sure you were okay. what was she talking about in there?"

"if i wanted you to know, i would've told you" lemon stared at him. after a few moments of silence, she spoke again "everyone always expects me to be this happy person with a perfect life all because i have money and fame, but i want more than that. i need more than that"

"what do you need?"

"i need to feel worthy, i need to accept what has happened, i need to find myself" she frowned, a million thoughts going through her head "i want to forgive you, and i think deep down i have, but it's not enough. we just aren't going to work"

"yes we-"

"we don't, at least not right now. i need to work on myself and you obviously have a lot to work on" lemon said not letting drew think she isn't still mad at him

"i'm trying lemon. every second i think about you and what we had. i want you back and i'm going to work on myself so we can be better than we were before"

"good." lemon left him outside and joined their friends in the restaurant
