Some Time Away

"So what do we do now?" Devin asked as I closed the door behind me.

"It's a mess inside there and I have a feeling that we're not being told the entire story. Something's not right."

I looked at him.

"It is a mess in there. I'm just glad that I'm away from the confusion, even if it is for a little bit."

He looked over at me.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm just not accustomed to all this fighting."

"Aren't your parents superheroes?"

"Yeah, but they don't fight at home like this.

It's usually Mom telling Dad about something he did.

He tells her back something.

And she begins listing out the facts of why he is wrong.

And well, end of fight"

He chuckled.

"Sounds like my parents. But, you already know how stubborn my dad can be.

Let's leave it like that"

We both laughed.

Then there was silence. We both were standing in yard, with no idea of what was going to take place next.

"Want to get away from here?" I asked him.

He looked at me with his eyes gleaming.

"Yes!"

"Alright, give me a boost" I replied, pulling him over to the verandah.

He launched me up and I grabbed onto the roof, pulling myself up.

I then dropped my arm to pull him up.

We then snuck into our room to grab some clothes.

I also grabbed the bag with food that dad had left in here earlier.

"How convenient" I chuckled to myself.

What worried me though is that the house was dead silent.

If a feather fell, you would be able to hear it.

"Ready?" he asked me, whispering.

"Why are we whispering?" I whispered back, stifling a laugh.

"It's really quiet in here, and we're not supposed to be in here remember"

He made a good point.

We climbed out the window and I slid off the roof onto the ground.

Devin dropped the bags for me, and then came down himself.

"Alright, let's go"

We made our way away from the house into the woods, back up the path that Grandpa had taken me, when we were going to the waterfall.

I could vividly remember the way that it gleamed and glittered in the sunlight.

And frankly, such a spectacle had to be shared.

As we walked, I showed him the different areas of the lake, just as Grandpa did to me.

We looked for squirrels and birds.

Devin even pulled out his phone to take pictures.

"You'll send those to me?"

"Definitely. Where's your phone?"
