The day flew by fast, Amari had spent the rest of the day with Spencer. They'd holed themselves up in his apartment and watched a number of old movies and completed their paperwork, knowing that it always put them in a good mood.

She was supposed to meet Chase for coffee, but had gotten a call from him while she was at the bookstore with Spence to reschedule. For what reason, she didn't know. So now she was meeting with him tomorrow at a place near to the bureau. Spencer knew and was ready to call her in for an imaginary case if needed. They'd been sitting and mulling over the different outcomes of Amari's little coffee date with her ex — as Spencer liked to put it.

It was currently nearing midnight. The night had blanketed the city a long time ago, leaving nothing but monsters in the shadows where animals once hid. Amari had only noticed how eerie it was late at night in the heart of D.C when she drove home, wanting nothing more than to escape the haunting silence of the usually busy city.

When she finally made it home, she instantly took a shower and got into bed, feeling far too tired to do anything else.

"Morning Aaron." Amari sung as she joined the stoic man in the elevator, watching as he pressed the button for the sixth floor.

"Morning Amari." He replied, allowing his grumpy frown to twist into a small smile for her.

Amari couldn't help but furrow her brows as she observed him. He looked tense — in his defense he always did — but it was worse today. She glanced down at his hand and saw the tip of his thumb drawing tiny circles on his pointer finger. He was definitely deep in thought about something.

But Amari didn't want to pry. He'd tell her when she was ready.

The shrill ding of the elevator pulled both of them out of their reveries, Aaron letting Amari walk out first before he followed close behind. He mumbled his 'good mornings' and stalked up to his office, slamming the door shut. Amari walked up to Spencer, never taking her eyes off Hotch as he sat down at his desk and raked his fingers through his hair before he delved into the piles of never ending paperwork.

"He okay?" Morgan asked as he joined Spencer and Amari.

Amari shrugged, slipping him a shy smile which he returned with an oddly chilly one. Spencer bit his lip as he watched the interaction, knowing immediately that Amari's ex showing up at her door did not sit right with Morgan.

Today was, like usual when they were in the unit, a paperwork day. It wasn't that doing paperwork the whole day wasn't relaxing, it was just that some of the team was itching for a new case, Derek and Amari included.

But they'd settle for paperwork. It was calming. In its own way.

Hallway through the day, Amari walked over to the break room, needed a cup of crappy coffee to get her through the rest of the day. While she was making her coffee, she felt a presence behind but ignored it, concluding that her coffee was more important. That is, until the person came to stand next to her and she saw who it was.
