him sitting in the car trunk

the lingering heat on his cheeks

painted shadows of twilight

swirling with technicolor

dim faded orange and lime yellows

dancing around desert scrub

an enchantment in the air

bursts of magenta in the clouds

a song humming from the sand

the melody of the constellations

flowing through our tired bodies

a moment uncapturable

on photography and film

musty sweat and chapped lips

arches shimmering from afar

the wonder in his eyes as the

night glows with seas of stars

like ocean fireflies of old dreams

unbottleable pulsing radiant

fluorescent memory figment

hold it close to my chest

even if its ribbons slip

between my fingers
