Chapter Summary
Jimin tries to get Jungkook back on his feet again.
------
Pulling up outside Jungkook's apartment, Jimin guides him pass the door and to the elevator. Back at the hospital, Jimin had taken a glance at Jungkook's address and apartment number as to not make the younger suspect his lie. Taking Jungkook's hand under his own, Jimin places their palms over the elevator buttons.
"One, two, three...and four. Remember, you're going to press the fourth button of the left most column okay? And when you want to get down to the lobby, its...here. The button at the very bottom of the first column. Got it?" Jimin looks up for an affirmation even though he knows Jungkook cannot see him.
"Mhm, got it. Thanks Tae." Jungkook looks like an enthusiastic student eager to learn.
4th floor. 4th floor.
"Wow, you won't even have to worry about getting off on the wrong floor if it stops in between. It announces the floor verbally" Jimin is quite impressed with the user friendly elevator.
"Hahah, that's technology for you. I didn't even notice it had this feature before" The pair exits the elevator in a joyous mood.
"Do you wanna try opening the door Kookie?" Jimin asks when they've arrived in front of Jungkook's door.
"Yea, I think I can do it." Stumbling with his keychains, Jungkook takes several moments in an attempt to identify the correct key. Unable to tell which one's the right key, he hands the jumble of keys to Jimin. "Nevermind, can you find the key for me? There's two that's shape similarly, the house key is the one with a 5 on it."
"Here you go." Jimin hands over the key to Jungkook who then struggles with inserting the key into the key whole but ultimately succeeds.
"Ah hah. There we go." The door swings open and as the two enter, Jimin picks up the smell of fresh laundry. A scent that has been following Jungkook since childhood as he is a clean freak. "Let's see, the shoe shelf should be here. And the light switch," Jungkook reaches out his arm to feel across the wall, "where is it...ah, there it is." Light illuminates throughout the apartment, and Jimin sees Jungkook's place for the first time.
The small hallway from the door leads to the living room where a small red sofa is situated. A short yet broad black table lays on a white rug, giving the space a sophisticated look. There is a TV, and various framed photos are scattered around. The far side of the living room is all glass with glass doors that open out onto a balcony. Looking to the right, there is a kitchen and a small island. Jungkook's kitchen is quite minimalistic, with only a coffeemaker and toaster lying around. There isn't even a rice cooker. To the left of the living room is another small hallway that leads to the bathroom and single bedroom. Jimin continues to quietly observe as Jungkook finds his way around, testing out his memory of his own home.
"Tae, if you have things to do you can go. I can get settled in by myself." Jungkook says as he makes his way to his room. He doesn't want to bother his lover more than he already has.
"No, its okay. I can stay." Jimin replies earnestly. He'll be even more worried leaving Jungkook by himself.
"No, seriously. I'll be fine on my own. You can come by again tomorrow." Jungkook's tone leaves no room for bargaining.
"Alright...then I'll leave now. You don't have to walk me out. I'll come by first thing in the morning!" Jimin shouts before shutting the door. He feels reluctant leaving but Jimin knows Jungkook needs time to sort things out for himself. Jungkook has always been quite confident in his abilities, even bordering prideful. Losing his sight has rendered him feeling helpless and Jimin knows that even though he is offering his help, there are things that Jungkook needs to do himself. In order to save Jungkook's dignity and self-esteem, Jimin leaves.

Back in Jungkook's apartment, things are starting to go in disarray. He trips over things and knocks down more things as a result. Picture frames have fallen faced down onto the floor, and bruises are starting to form where Jungkook repeatedly graze against the corners of his table. Exhausted, Jungkook finds his way into the kitchen to get something to drink. He manages to pour a cup of hot water and stumbles around to find the box of instant coffee. Pulling out a package, Jungkook shakes it and proceeds to tear it open. Hovering his hand around to grab his mug, he underestimates the proximity of the mug and ends up knocking it off the counter. A loud crash is followed by splashes of hot water on Jungkook's bare feet. Startled, he takes a step back, placing his right foot directly on a piece of sharp glass that had splattered from the broken mug. Agghh, fuck. Jungkook quickly picks up his bleeding foot, feeling exasperated.
Unable to see anything, he doesn't know where to step to avoid the glass pieces. By the time he escaped the hazardous kitchen, both of Jungkook's feet are covered in miniature cuts. Shuffling into the bathroom, he searches for his first aid kit in the medicine cabinet. He moves his hand slowly and carefully as to not knock down any bottles and make more mess, clack...clack.clack clack CLACK. Jungkook's hand hovers in the air as the bottles of medicine and syrup topple to the bathroom floor. Dropping his arm back to his side and rolling his head back, Jungkook lets out a scream of agitation.
"FUCK! FUCK EVERYTHING! GODDAMMIT!!" Jungkook falls to his knees, his cuts opening up and burning due to the pressure on his toes. Overwhelmed by frustration, Jungkook cries for the first time since he's lost his sight.
Jimin fails to sleep the entire night. Laying on his bed, he waits for the sun to rise. At 5:30, Jimin gets ready to head to Jungkook's place. It's early and Jungkook may still be asleep but that's okay. He'll just come early and make breakfast or something. He won't wake up Jungkook since the other had given Jimin his extra house key yesterday, in case anything happens.
"Jungkookie?" Jimin whispers as he tips toes into the living room, expecting Jungkook to still be in bed. The living room is a complete mess and Jimin becomes uneasy when he sees the broken mug on the kitchen floor, streaks of blood staining the white tiles. He rushes to Jungkook's room but something halts him in his steps. Across the living room, Jungkook lays lifelessly underneath the curtains of the balcony door. As Jimin approaches Jungkook, he notices the cuts on the younger's feet, now coated in dried blood. "Oh god, Jungkookie..."
"Taetae-hyung?" Jungkook mutters, still half asleep. Jungkook only calls Taehyung "Taetae- hyung" when they were younger. Jimin wonders just how vulnerable Jungkook must feel right now to bring back the old nickname.
He gathers up the boy in his arms and rocks back and forth. Jimin cannot stop the trembling of his lips or the overwhelming urge to cry aloud. Something about the way Jungkook looks right now sends shivers down Jimin's spines. His protective instinct kicks in as Jungkook snuggles further into his embrace.
"Taehyungie, why are you crying?" Jungkook makes 'shh' noises as he rubs up and down Jimin's back."What? I - I'm not crying." The fact that Jungkook is the one comforting him and not the other way around brings more tears to Jimin's eye. Untangling himself from the younger, Jimin heads for the bathroom. "You keep your first aid in the bathroom right?"
"Yea, it's kind of messy in there though..."
Seeing bottles scattered across the bathroom floor, Jimin tries to imagine how difficult and hellish last night was for Jungkook. Grabbing the first aid kit, he makes his way back to where Jungkook is sitting. Jimin cleans and bandages Jungkook's feet in silence. "I'm pathetic aren't I?" Jungkook weakly laughs."No." Jimin says, his tone dead serious. "You're the exact opposite of that." And Jimin leans in to kiss Jungkook softly on the lips. Now Jungkook is the quiet one.
"Let's go the Han River, we need some fresh air." Jimin says as he packs up the kit. After a quick house clean up, the pair is out the door.
