LANA'S EYES SQUEEZED THEMSELVES SHUT AS HER PHONE BUZZED. Her fingers desperately stretched from her comfortable position underneath JJ's arm , her fingertips barely making contact with the metal. The alarm blaring was giving her a headache already and with reluctance , she moved quickly out of JJ's arm and sat up. She glanced down and saw an unfamiliar number flash across the screen.
Her eyebrows scrunched in confusion and she switched her phone to silent , watching the number continue to flash across the screen. Lana sighed and glanced behind her , rolling her eyes as JJ's eyes didn't open as he fluffed the pillow and flipped himself over— loud snores rolling off his tongue peacefully. His hair was in messy but somehow tousled perfectly enough to frame his face. Yellow bruises decorated the skin of his face and looking at them made her sad. Though , a smile pressed itself on her face as she soaked in JJ's peaceful state. Lana loved seeing JJ like this. He wasn't worrying about the gold or his dad. He was sleeping and safe and right next to her always. It brought her comfort.
Lana was so entranced in watching JJ sleep , she didn't realize the vibration stop in her hand and start all over again. Huffing , Lana decided to press answer. "Hello?"
"Lana..."
Lana's stomach dropped— the voice had sounded so familiar and the name was on the tip of her tongue. They said her name barely above a whisper , choked out. "Hello? Who is this?"
"Sweetie , it's me. It's mom."
Lana's heart dropped. She pulled the phone away from her ear quickly and her thumb hovered over the red button to end the call. But her mother yelled her name quickly. "Lana please don't hang up! Lana , please just talk to me."
