"Here," Casey said handing gifts to Christie and Violet.
"And these are for you," Christie said handing Matt one, then Gabby one, and then one to both of them.
"You didn't have to get us anything."
"Of course I did," she replied with a smile.
Gabby opened the one addressed to the both of them and pulled out the clothes.
"Aww Matt look at it," she said holding up the onesie.
"They were just a couple of things I saw in the baby boutique I thought you might like," Christie smiled.
"They are absolutely gorgeous," she said looking at the others. "Thank you so much."
"Your welcome. I didn't want to get anything more until you knew the gender."
"These are beautiful, thank you."
"We aren't finding out the gender. Gabby convinced me not to," Matt said.
"Plus he already painted the nursery," she smiled.
"What colour?"
"Green. It's a nice green, could be boy or girl. We'll do more after the baby's born."
"Thank you for my gift," Violet said hugging Matt and then Gabby.
"You're welcome Violet. Do you like it?"
"Yeah I love it," she smiled.
"Oh. Violet come here," Gabby said.
"What is it?"
"Give me your hand." She grabbed it and pressed it to her stomach where the baby was kicking.
"Do it hurt?" She asked sitting down beside her.
"Sometimes. It isn't now. It just feels funny."

"Did you...did you go see mum this morning Matt?" Christie asked.
"Yeah, I did."
"How is she?"
"She's as good as possible I guess, looking forward to getting out."
"When's that?"
"Six months. Listen Christie, I um, I hope it won't be a problem if mum's at our wedding. I hope you'll still come."
"Matt, I don't know if I want her around Violet."
"Please, look you don't even have to talk to her, you can sit away from each other but I can't choose between my Mum and my sister and niece. And I'll talk to her, I'll tell her to steer clear of you for the night."
"I'll-I'll think about it."

There was a knock at the door.
"Matt can you get it, it'll be Shay and Kelly. I hope you don't mind Christie."
"No not at all. The more the merrier."
"And my brother might come round after dinner for a bit."
"Merry Christmas!" Shay said walking in.
"Hey. Christie this is my friend Shay."
"Leslie," she said shaking Christies hand.
"Right, Leslie sorry. Violet you remember Shay from the firehouse don't you?"
"Yeah," she nodded.
"I bring beer," Kelly said walking in.
"Merry Christmas to you too Kelly," Gabby laughed.
"Now that you two are here should we eat?" Matt asked.
"Yes," they said standing up and gathering around the table.
"Merry Christmas!"
