Four years later- Derek ran down the hall followed by one year old sister crawling behind him. The squeal of the children made Amelia smile but the sight of her darling husband running behind them made her heart soar. They were leaving Australia today so the day was going to be spent by the pool. The older kids were already down at the hotel pool but the parents and younger children had waited until after the babies nap to go. Now Derek and Olivia were up and full of energy. As they walked towards the stairs, because the elevator scared Olivia, Derek  thought that running was better than waiting for his little sister. As Derek reached the elevator the doors opened and Tom ran to prevent him from getting on the elevator. "Derek  Henry DO NOT GET ON THAT ELEVATOR!" Amelia said loudly, there coming off the elevator was the face that still haunted her too this day. There with his loyal furry companion. Time stood still  as they stepped out of the elevator. It was super quick, as Derek tried to run into the elevator Henry reached and grabbed him before he could. Olivia had reached them and was now trying to touch Kal who was licking her tiny hands in response. After almost four years the  day she had dreaded was here and it was very public. Tom reached down to pick up his daughter from the floor even though she protest. Henry held the boy in his arms and studied him carefully. His dark hair and his bright blue eyes. But there in his left eye was the proof that Henry couldn't avoid. The small brown spot of Heterochromia. The boy was shy but Henry said something to him and made him laugh. In that moment Amelia heart stopped, every time Derek laughed the second less obvious trait that he inherited from his father showed on his face. As he laughed Henry saw  the very recognizable chin dimple and turned to Amelia for confirmation. Tom reached out for His son and the boy  stretched his arms to him. He took him in his empty arm juggling both children. "daddy" he said in his small English accent "could i pet the dog?" "of course you can" Henry answered instead of Tom which caused Tom to frown. He still put the boy down and let him pet the dog. "His name is Kal" Henry leaned down to his level and studied the boy. "Hi Kal, my name is Derek" Amelia walked closer to them stopped putting her hand on Tom's back to keep him calm but the loving gesture made Henry cringe. They watched the exchange before them, but soon Tom broke the tension. "Nice to see you Henry, but we must go" Henry stood the look of annoyance evident in his eyes. "Sweetheart, why don't you go on ahead with daddy and Livy and get to the pool, Momma will be there in a minuet OK?" The small boy nodded obediently at his mother and took Toms hand to get on the elevator that had just arrived in their floor again. Tom looked at her but she nodded her head. "it's ok love, I'll be there soon" "Bye Kal" The boy said sadly to the dog. "Thank you for letting me pet your dog, sir" he said the owner of the dog as he stepped into the elevator with Tom. Derek was oblivious to who Henry was but life had altered in that moment for Henry. Tom stood in the elevator with a screaming Olivia  and Derek  jumping up and down. she smiled at him reassuring his worried look. As the door closed she leaned down and caressed the dog. "Hi Kal" She patted him and hugged him as the dog licked her in response. She was wearing a maxi dress and her long hair was down, she was casual but still radiant as ever. Henry wanted to hold her but the anger coursing through him brought him back to the topic at hand.  "He's my son isn't he?" He said in a tone that worried her she stood to look at him again. Those eyes that could claim her at any moment. "Biologically, yes he is your son, but emotionally Tom is his father, he is the only father he has ever and will ever know." Her response was mean but true but even so it just made him more angry. "How could you not tell me? How could you keep this from me! You had no right!" He was now furious and losing his temper.  "I had every right! Henry, everything with you even our son's conception was and always will be turbulent and toxic! He's a child he needs stability, love and parents who will be there for him. you turned me inside out and broke me at every turn. Our relationship was a disaster from the beginning I wasn't going to do that to our child." He was seething but the words she said were true. "I still had a right to know, was it Tom that made you keep it from me" The thought of him enraged it even more. "No, Tom wanted to tell you. He actually tried on many occasions but he couldn't bring himself to do it." He looked at her, the anger he felt left him with one look. She was still beautiful but she was different. She was not the cold dark person she was at the beginning. Tom's love had changed her and now she was again a mother and wife and it put her exactly where she needed to be. He could see that. "But he left the decision to me and trusted that I made the best decision for our son. I know you feel like that was wrong for you and yes it might have been unfair to you, but not for Derek ." She looked him straight in the eyes now and even though that fire was still there she knew how to keep it at bay. "Henry, he is happy and that was the most important thing to me. Not your rights or my feelings. Tom is an incredible father to all the kids and that to me means everything" Silence. The tension was filling them but Amelia had nothing else to say. She pushed the button on the elevator to leave and join her family. she leaned down and kissed the dog goodbye. "take care of him for me" she whispered to him, like she did the day she left Jersey. Henry reached out to her as she moved away, "I miss you, Amelia,  I love you still." the ding of the elevator singled its arrival. She maneuvered herself out of his grasp and walked into the elevator. He turned to face her his eyes were sad with pleading, but she wouldn't fall again. "Do you miss me?" he whispered to her pleading her, to stay. She turned to face him and pulled her necklace that was hidden in her cleavage. The ring he gave her many years ago hung on the thin silver chain. She kept in next to her heart as a reminder of her love for him. One day she would have to tell Derek of his father and she hoped he could see the ring as a token and proof of his fathers love for him. His eyes were full of surprise and hope. But Amelia has grown and she had put him behind her and even though she loved him more than anything else, she knew she was where she needed to be. But she would always be honest with him "Every single day" she said before the doors closed. Giving him a sad smile. He walked towards the closing doors but was too late, he was always too late. She didn't fall apart on the ride down because she had cried all her tears for him. She tucked the ring back into her hiding place. Tom knew it was there but never questioned her, he knew that Henry would always be in her heart and he would never deny or compete with that. She was still haunted by him every day, her son ensured that, by looking like him or even acting like him subconsciously. But Tom was always there to make her feel comfort and safety. She loved him he was her safety and her home and just like he promised all those years ago he was waiting for her. As the elevator opened to the ground level she saw him waiting for her. "I left the kids with Anna and asked her to watch them for a bit. I thought we could grab some lunch on our own." He smiled at her and she ran to him. He held her tight, there was no sadness anymore or any more tears to cry. Tom knew that the love she had for Henry was ever consuming but he would never tell her. He was just there for her because his heart beat for her. They were a happy family and that meant more to him than anything else in the world. She kissed him and they walked together hand in hand. She led and he followed like always because he would follow her anywhere, as long as she let him.
