Blue has never been to a proper English village. Well, countryside. All her life she's moved from city to city and never got to experience the serenity of the peaceful country.

However, this holiday season things are different. A lot of things are different. Blue has a new job with a successful advertising agency and she's coming up her sixth month in a seemingly healthy romantic relationship with someone she never pictured herself dating.

A stupidly dashing young man who treats her like she's literally a part of him. It's scary how much he treasures her and right now being under the roof of his mother's cottage, she cannot believe her anxiety is getting to her.

Watching the sunrise has been a favourite thing to do lately, especially with the calming view she gets from their shared room. It's quiet and sometimes the friendly old cat pops in to check in on them before the older woman does.

Blue sinks into the comfortable tangerine jumper that belongs to him. It is super comfortable and gentle on her, and it smells a whole lot like him.

The walls of his childhood bedroom have changed to match his adult mind, but knowing a young him spent a lot of time in here trying to navigate the world a little differently does something to her heart.

There's a low snore coming from beneath the covers and she chuckles in amusement, knowing he only starts snoring just before he wakes up.

Blue turns to gently pull the covers away from his face and catches him deep asleep. His slightly fuller curls are sprawled against the pillow and his plump lips are slightly apart. She is so tempted to tease but she lets him be.

Her eyes trace his beautiful face from the pillow and land on the bedside table, taking in the new recommended hearing aids he's stubbornly wearing.

The doctor had recommended matching his auditory skills with hearing aids as his right ear still picks up low sounds and he reluctantly gave in, after several fights about it.

"Squeeze me," she chuckles, moving from the bed.

Without waking him up, she ambles out of the bedroom and makes her way downstairs to the kitchen. Luckily for her, Anne is busy making a solo cup of morning tea.

The delightful cat happily moves around Blue's legs until she gets a tender touch on the head. Blue smiles at Anne and helps herself to a seat.

"Morning beautiful," Anne smiles, stirring her tea with ease.

"Morning," Blue exhales. "Thanks for having me over."

"Now, are you going to keep saying this every morning?" the older woman frowns.

"Until I return to London," Blue teases.

"That's annoying, make it stop," Anne shakes her head.

"I'm just grateful. It's not every time your boyfriend and his mum drag you to the country for a relaxing christmas holiday," Blue shrugs.

"It's only because we know you deserve it. Tea?" Anne is already reaching for the ceramic kettle.

"Not yet. You're still in a celebratory mood," Blue points out.

"It's not every time I win games night," Anne wiggles her eyebrows.

"Oh god, not when that one's playing," Blue unintentionally signs as she speaks and she quickly stops herself.
