“You have to talk, please, sis.” Josh speaks to his sister for the first time alone. “Everyone misses you, and-” He chokes on his words, lowering his watery eyes.

“And it’s almost Christmas time again. It wouldn’t be the same with out you...” He sees the tears that fall out of her lashes, but her face shows no emotions what so ever.

Tomorrow is Christmas, Sophia, I didn’t know if you celebrated it or not, but still, it wouldn’t feel the same. Your parents were thinking about taking you home for the day. You know, like a true family for the holiday. But Doctor Lee said it wouldn’t be the best thing to do right now...

I believe they plan on stay here with you, I’m hoping for a Christmas miracle honestly, because it would be amazing and plus. I got you a gift.

Andrew smiled and closed the book, it was completely filled with my entires. He read though them and see the differences in her health. It felt like only yesterday I was running in her after the pale faced girl I ran into.

He got an idea and started going though his cabinet for something. His copy of the ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’. I might go by there later on and read it to her.

“Hey, how’s it going honey?” Her mother asked as the whole family stepped into the small room. The nurse had brought in chairs for them. Each family member brought a gift and placed them in front of  Sophia on the bed. Even brought in a tiny foot tall, plastic plug-in tree.

Sophia stared at the corner of the room were no one was standing. The family talked about the past Christmas years and the future ones.

“I wish Sophia could hear us.” David say when the silence went on to long, Mom frowned but didn’t say anything.

That didn’t get by with Sophia, she turn to stare at her brother with a blank expression.

“I think she does hear us.” Josh says when he sees Sophia. “Hey Soph.” He waves when his sister looks at him, a huge smile on his face.

The parents beamed at their family as they sipped sparkling water. The evening went on as they played games with each other, talking to Sophia as if she could reply. Laughing at each other jokes, even singing a few corals.

When a knock came to the door Josh opened it to revel a small group of three; Andrew and his parents.

“Hello, Andrew,” Dad said cheerfully and went to shake hands with the new comers. “I don’t think we had the pleasure of meeting.” The man introduced himself as “Edward Spire,” and his wife as “Elizabeth”

Mom greeted them both as Dad introduced them.

“Our son Andrew,” Elizabeth Spire said after they offered them a seat. “Has been coming here for about seven months, we finally decided to see why.”

Andrew went straight to Sophia’s side and pulls out his gift.

They described what has happen to Sophia as holds the book Andrew brought her. Sophia looked up to Andrew smiling face for a second before going back to the book. Opening it the the first page.

“‘Twas the night before Christmas,’” Everyone went quite as Sophia spook in a clear strong voice.

“‘When all through the house

not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.’” Mom started crying with joy as Dad gasped in pure shock.

“‘The stocking were hung by the chimney with care,

in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.’”

Andrew had a huge smile on his face, the twins stared in surprise as their sister read the enter poem.

“‘Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!’”

Everyone clapped before they noticed Sophia started to shudder.

“Sophia!” Andrew caught her before she fell of the bed, but she didn’t stop thrashing. “Sophia?!”

Everyone rushed to the bed, calling for the doctor. Mom shrank in the chair and weeped as Elizabeth comforted her. Dad and the twins held on to her before she hurt herself.

Doctor Lee rushed in and checked the monitors and her heart rate before trying to give her a shot of something to help clam her.

But Sophia suddenly smiled and become still, with the small smile on her lips. Her hands were warm for the first time and her cheeks where tinted pink.

“Is she going to be okay?” Edward asked the couple outside of the room, minuets after what happened to Sophia.

“We think so, she still hasn’t stopped smiling.” The wished them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The Spire family left the hospital and faced the cold weather.

“That was the best thing that has happened so far.” David voices out. “I hope she will keep it up and talk more.”

“Does that mean we can take her home?” Josh asked his parents hopefully. They shrugged, “We aren’t sure yet, but if she does keep improving, I don’t see why not.” Dad replied and kissed his wife's forehead.

They went back tot he apartment after Lee told them that there daughter would be tested the next day to see if she was progressing.

Great news, but you probably all ready knew, you spoke today! You read all of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” then you just stopped and- well you started thrashing around for a few minuets, but then you just fell asleep again. You smiled too! It was one of the only emotion you gave anyone since that night so many months ago. I told your friend, Kathleen, she is excited as well. Everyone was so happy to see you talking. It’s a miracle. Thank you for coming back, Sophia Ryan.
