| Chapter 10 • Michael's Childhood/Flashback |
A Short Chapter/Filler

Flashback | 1968

The boy were in the living room, practicing for their father as their mother made dinner. Michael, the star of the group tried everything in his power to get the steps right but something was off. He didn't wanna make his father upset, it would only lead to him getting another beating or way worse- his mother.

Joe was abusive, very abusive. If it wasn't Joe's way, there was no way. Michael was tired of it, but what could he do? He wanted to run and play with the little kids, but no- he was stuck performing on a stage. Don't get him wrong he loved performing, he had a gift, it's just not what he wanted at this age

He wanted to live his childhood, to run freely with all the little kids his age! The recording studio that they go to, there was a park acrossed the street, everytime he'd look he'd cry because he wanted to play. He never had the chance to, ever, he was always stuck doing the same things. Tutoring for three hours then he'd either be stuck recording, doing interviews for tv, or photoshoots. By time he was done, it was time for bed, it wasn't what he wanted.

Suddenly, Joe stopped the music and turned to Michael, "Boy I'll give you one more chance, if you don't get these steps correct-. You got that?!" Joe hollered

Katherine wanted to tell Joe 'He's just a child, Joe!' but she couldn't, she couldn't find the guts to leave. The heart. Michael sighs and nods his head, again Joe started the music and Michael tumbled, he was a bit clumsy on his feet tonight. Angrily, Joe pauses the track and shoves Michael to the floor. Hard

Knocked the wind right out of the tiny boy, his brothers gasped and tried to help but Joe shot them a look, they look away. Michael had had enough at this point, the beatings, the torment and torture. Standing to his feet angrily with hot tears falling from his eyes, he sizes his father up

"Joe, if you hit me one more time, I won't perform!" Michael declares, a look a disbelief falls onto everyone's faces, "What the fuck did you say to me?" Joe growls, "You hit me again and I won't perform!" He repeated causing Janet to burst into tears, poor Michael had scared the girl

And he meant just that, after looking his son up and down Joe walks away causing Michael to sigh. He had just found a new way for his father to leave him alone.

The torment never stopped though, maybe physical abuse calmed a bit but the verbal- oh the verbal. Michael's father never saw him as his son, he was "too black" or maybe "his nose is too big" it was always something.

Michael would look in the mirror sometimes and wonder why couldn't his father be happy with him for once? Nothing he did could satisfy his father. At this point Michael had despised his father, for everything.

For the abuse of not only himself, but for his mother. For scaring his babysister, for everything he did. Michael didn't ask for this life so why was it given?

"Mother." Michael calls softly, she smiles and nods her head, "Yes son?"

"I want out." He admits, she sets her wooden spoon down and turns to him, "Want out of what?"

"Everything. The band, this family." Michael says, "You aint getting out of that band, you ungrateful boy." Joe snaps from behind him

"Thats enough, Joe!" Katherine snaps, "Who you talkin' to woman?" That was the start of another argument

Both of them going back and forth yelling, Michael's mind raced. He took off, neither one of them had noticed that Michael was gone. He ran upstairs to his room and climbed out the window and onto the rooftops to watch the stars.

It was a peaceful escape, an escape from reality, from this evil life given to him. He just wanted a normal life since his childhood was ruined, a normal teen life. And thats what he got, once he'd turn 16, he moved to Kansas and started going to Kennedy High where no one knew him. Finally he'd live a normal, peaceful life. Or so he thought

Michael grew older and started getting ache- like a normal teenager, Joe didn't like it. Michael was never satisfied with himself because of Joe, he thought he was ugly like his father did. He refused to face a mirror because he'd cry, his father teased and teased until he finally just left him be.

Slowly, Michael started to forgive his father, only because it was the right thing to do for him.

A//N

If you couldn't tell, I did get a bit of the information from the interview with Oprah, which I honestly don't really like cause she was asking some of the rudest most privacy invading questions. I am gonna use the interview in a chapter - a later chapter, I'm talking Bad Era...so wait, now that I think about it should I change Jt's career to Whitney Houston's or keep it as Beyonce's ? Wouldn't Bey's music be too ... too ya know upbeat and out there for the 80-90s ? maybe the 90s but the 80s? Nah. Yall let me know cause maybe I could merge it. This was a long A/N but I kinda need the help or imma just merge it 😭💘.
