Jill's POV

"Ouch ouch ouch!" I whined as the EMT checked on my bruised ribs. Fortunately, my being paranoid save Sam and I. Before going to the precinct, I insisted that we both wear a vest. "It sting like hell."

"Stop whining Jill! It's not like this is your first time." Lea the nurse commented. I have know her for a while since she patched me up a couple of times while chasing perps.

"It was at close range!" I argued. "Anyway, how's Sam?"

"She's hasn't regained consciousness and you can check on her after I patch you up."

"Jill!" Oh no...

"Mom..."

"What happened?" She asked. I was told that she was operating someone and I hoped to make an exit before she found out. I hate to see her worry.

"I got shot but I had my vest on."

"And Sam too?"

"She also had a vest on."

"What are you too doing there anyway?"

"I can't tell you mom. It's classified."

She sighed then hugged me tightly. "I'm so worried."

"I'm sorry mom but I'm okay, so if you'll excuse me, I need to check on Sam." I kissed her temple and hopped off the bed. "Ouch!" I forgot about my ribs.

Sam's POV

"It's my day! It's my day! It's my birthday!!!" I sang as my mother and I walked swaying our arms towards the bank where my father worked.

She cooked my favorite dishes and bought a cake. She even allowed me to skip school so we can celebrate my birthday. It's too bad that daddy was not able to take a leave today which he always does but it's okay since we got to visit him.

"Hi Sam! You've grown so fast!" Tim the security guard said as he opened the door. He and my dad had been working together even before I was born so he knew me well.

"I'm turned twelve today."

"Happy Birthday Sam!"

"Thank you!"

"Come on. Let's go see your dad."

We went to my father's office without any issues since most of his co-workers knew us.

My mother knocked on the door before opening it. My father held a hand as she spoke at the phone but motioned us to go in.

"Happy Birthday my precious!" He said the moment he dropped the phone. "Let's have early lunch! I'm starving. I have been talking non stop to clients this morning that it drained me."

My mother took out the food from the basket and we ate gleefully sharing the small meal. Then my mother took out the cake and lit the candle. "Make a wish then blow." She added after singing me the birthday song.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Loud sound followed by screamed echoed the bank. "Stay here and hide!" My father ordered.

He was about to leave the room when two men in masked barged in and took my father. "Open the safe!"

Everything then went into blur then I saw his gun pointed at me.

Bang!

"No!!!"

"Sam! Sam!" I opened my eyes and noticed that I wasn't in the bank but in the hospital. "Sam! It was just a dream. It's going to be okay." I took a few calming breathe before Jill's words finally seeped to my brain.

"The gun shot felt so real." I whispered, thinking of my dream.

"It was real." I then looked at her and frowned. "You were shot at the precinct. Remember?"

Then the memories of earlier events came flooding back. "Yeah... I remembered... Sorry... The shooting earlier brought me back to the bank when my... "

"Shhhh... It's okay baby... It's just a dream and we're safe now." She assured me.

There was a knock on the door and a man in suit entered, Detective James Murphy, I knew him from the personnel files and he's not on the black book. "Ladies, I'm Sergeant Detective James Murphy from the Organized Crime Division. I'm Captain Taylor's second in command."

"How is he?" Jill asked.

"He's still in surgery the doctors can't tell yet." He responded and I could feel the angst in his voice. "What happened?"

"I'm Officer Jerkins from the 35th precinct and this is my girlfriend Sam." Jill introduced us but for all we know, he already knew our identities. It was just Jill's way of saying that we're not hostile. "We came to Captain Taylor to give an evidence which as I remembered being stolen by Detective Cole."

"How did you know about him?"

I let Jill answer all the questions. "Let me tell you from the start." She then told him how I acquired the black book and how we crossed checked the names in the black book with the names in the Organized Crime Division in order to make sure that the captain's name was not in the book. "The next thing I knew, Detective Collins took the book and ran towards the back."

"You said there were two from us. Cole's the first, then who's the second?"

Jill doubter at first before answering. "Detective Jackie Whitney."

"Fuck!" Sgt. Murphy then took his phone out. "Just yes or no. Is Whitney there? Good! Keep an eye on her but be discreet! She's sharp!"

"What now?"

"I'm placing you both under protective custody and will be hidden in a safe house. I will need to contact the Feds since we have been working this case for a while. And also the IAB to report Whitney. But I won't know who to call since we don't have the book anymore." He explained.

Jill and I looked at each other, she nodded and took the USB from her pocket. "Here... We made a back up."

"I don't think it will hold on court but I at least knew which names not to call." As Jill handed to USB to Sgt. Murphy, the door opened and a doctor which I don't recognized entered.

"Who are you?" Jill asked.

"I'm Sam's doctor. I'm here to check on her." He said as he stepped forward.

"No you're not! Who the hell are you!" Jill tried to reach for her gun but it wasn't on her waist. "Shit!"

The impostor doctor then drew a gun and pointed at us. Sgt. Murphy didn't even have the time to drew his gun as the impostor pointed it at me. "Drop your gun or I'll shoot her."

"Okay! Okay!" He emptied his gun and dropped it on the floor.

"Now give me that thing that she gave you!"

"What thing? She gave me nothing!"

"One more lie and I'll shoot! Now empty your pockets!"

Sgt. Murphy emptied his pocket and the gunman saw the USB. "Give that to me!"

"Okay!" The detective tried to lure the gunman away from the bed as he handed him the USB. However, at the last moment, he threw the USB up that distracted the gunman.

Bang!

I suddenly felt Jill cover me as I watched the two wrestle for the gun.

Two uniformed police officers went in with their guns drawn but they don't have a shot.

"Fuck!" The first man holstered his weapon and dove for the gunman's arm. He hit the man's arm to the floor until he dropped the gun and at the same time, Murphy punched to guy until he loss consciousness.

"Son of a bitch!" Murphy yelled as he kicked the already fallen man. "You two okay?"

I nodded. "I'm fine." But then I felt warm liquid on my skin. My hand followed the source and then I saw red. Jill's blood was flowing over me. "Oh my God! Jill!"

"Call the doctor!" Someone yelled.
