i walk on uneven streets
uneven stepsknowing that my surroundings
exist within a glitch of
time andas people rush to embrace
technology i meander slowly
down my neighborhood
sidewalk
my phone buzzes
a reminder i cant sidle
along
for longtoo much inside to see
absorb consume purchase
digest encompass envelopbut for a moment
i can go down the block
gaze at the oak tree defiant
in its war against the cement that
traps its roots
the tree i used to climb
until i was eye level with the birds
before
i fell back to earth
and my mother caught mei wont climb the tree again
she's indoors
inside
on her phone
no arms to catch my
unexpected descent
from the wild verdant leaves to
the evenly trimmed lawnthough i know my
surroundings
exist within a glitch of
space andI appreciate this moment
this frame before it all disappears
fatality becomes reality
and my mother stops looking up
from the blue glow
on occasion
