For a few seconds no one moved, not even Dr. Thorn, the only sound was the demigod's heavy breathing and wind.

"No," Dr. Thorn said fearfully. "It can not be-"

He wasn't able to finish his sentence as an arrow shot right into his shoulder.

He cried out in agony.

"Curse you!!" He wailed stumbling backwards.

He sent another attack of Spike's (quite possibly his last attack for a very long time)

But an attack of arrows sliced them in half.
Sydney's eyes widened. "Impossible" she breathed out.

The archers stepped forward. They were all girls, the youngest was ten, the oldest fourteen. They wore silvery ski parkas and jeans.
They all had bows.

"The hunters!" Annabeth cried.
Next to Sydney and Percy thalia muttered.
"Wonderful"

An older archer stepped forward.
She was stunning.
"Permission to kill m'lady?"

"Unfair!" The manticore wailed. Direct interference! It is against the Ancient Laws"

"Get over it buddy," Sydney said.

"Not so" a girl stepped forward she was maybe twelve or thirteen. She had burning hair.
"The hunting of wild beasts is in my sphere. and you, foul creature, are a wild beast" she said. Sydney found the girl familiar but couldn't place where she had seen her.
She looked at the older girl. "Zoë, permission granted"

"If I can not have these alive, I shall have them dead!"

The manticore lunged at Percy and thalia.
"No!" Sydney yelled.
Annabeth and Sydney charged at him.

"Get back half-bloods!" Zoë yelled.
"Get out of the line of fire"

Annabeth leaped onto the monster's back.
"Annabeth! No!" Sydney yelled.
"Fire!" Zoë ordered.
"No!" Percy yelled.

The hunters let their arrows fly.
They hit the manticore right in the chest. He stumbled back wailing, Annabeth hung on, panicking.
"This is not the end! You shall pay!" He wailed.

He was getting closer and closer to the edge and Annabeth still hadn't gotten off his back.

Before anyone could reach the monster leapt off the edge of the cliff with Annabeth.
"No!!" Sydney yelled running to the edge, thalia grabbed her arms.
"Sydney you can't!"

There was a snap noise as the helicopter shot at them.

Sydney's ears were ringing.

One of the hunters said something and held her hand out, the helicopter turned into a flock of birds.

Zoë marched towards them, stopping when she saw Thalia.

"You," she said.

Thalia's nails dug into Sydneys arms, causing the girl to wince.
"Zoë Nightshade," Thalia said. "Showing up late as usual."

Zoë glared at Thalia and turned her gaze to Sydney, who was still wincing.

"You're hurting the girl" Zoë pointed out.
Thalia released her grip on Sydneys arms.
"Sorry"

Zoë scanned the rest of them.
"Five demigods, and a satyr. My lady"

"Yes, some of the chirons campers I see." The younger girl said. She stopped when she saw Sydney, she smiled a small smile.
"it is good to see you Sydney," she said.

Sydney realized where she recognized her;
She had met her two summers ago, she was staying at the zoo feeding the animals, and Artemis had shown up, and given her the offer of joining them.
Sydney said she'd think about it and she hadn't seen her since.
