Chapter 43

The workouts that my Dad made me do don't compare to running down these stairs. 

So far we have encountered three different groups of Igor's men in the stair well but all have been coming up towards us so Lucas and Leo have dealt with them while I am still running to catch up with them. 

"Hurry up Lia!" Leo shouts angrily at me as I'm puffing down the stairs

"Go on ahead then!" I shout back frustrated, trying to run as fast as i can without falling 

"Guys we have one more flight. Stop fighting and come on" Lucas says frustrated with the both of us

I can hear the gunfire from in the stairwell and the extremely stressed voices of Italian men

"Okay, we're behind some of the Russians" Lucas shouts to us through the sound of gun shots while looking through a small slit in the slightly open door 

"Lia, you stay here for a second. Me and Lucas are both a better shot than you and right now you are worth more to the Russians than us, Okay?" Leo says still looking at what is unfolding behind the door

"Yeah, okay" I say flustered and look at Lucas, my heart pounding impossibly harder 

Lucas and Leo run into the warehouse firing shots and being shot at. 

But i don't have time to worry about them when i can't do anything. If the Russians got to me then i would be tortured for a very long time for killing the son of their leader 

I sit down on one of the stairs and open up the computer screen 

It's hectic, the laptop is ten times harder to see anything on but I do see that as planned the French lady and the American man have already left with everything that they came for. 

But on a seperate square of footage, right at the top of the computer screen is a small woman stumbling up the stairs

The woman briefly turns around and I gasp

Freya is still here, why hasn't she left yet? 

She has a gash on her face that blood is dramatically pouring from and is stumbling all over the place, but she is defiantly determined to get to the top floor

"Oh crap" I whisper realising that she is probably trying to come get me but I am already gone 

I flick the lights but that doesn't work, she just carries on half running half walking to the top of the building, she's slowing down and grabbing onto the stair banister for support

"Lia, Come on!" Leo shouts at me

I quickly shut the lid of the laptop and follow his voice into a room of many dead men lying on the floor, most of which I don't recognise so I hope they didn't come to save me 

I awkwardly run around them until I reach Lucas and Leo on the other side

"Come on" Lucas says and we all start running again towards the entrance for the warehouse that my Dad, Giovanni and Roman are all in

The door opens and it feels like all I can see is blood, I freeze for a second and only begin moving again when Lucas pulls me by arm behind a big crate 

He sits me down against it and leans down next to me

"Lia stay here okay? It will all be over soon" He whispers looking deep into my eyes and for an instant I feel so safe and calm

I nod silently and as he turns away for a split second to watch something happening behind him, the fear returns and all the days events are starting to build up and I can't talk out of fear. He must realise I have tensed up again because he moves his hand from my arm and touches the side of my face gently. I let the laptop fall into my lap and place my hand on his hand 

"I love you" he says smiling softly then leans down and kisses me 

"I love you too" I say when we break the kiss

He smiles then quickly kisses my forehead before shooting at something behind me and running  to be behind another crate 

My eyes follow him but my thoughts are interrupted when a shot is fired past me and hits the wall

I quickly move a couple of centimetres over to be even more protected by the crate then open the laptop remember I need to do something too

I see Freya continuously climbing higher and higher but I can't do anything about that right now and so instead I focus back on to what I can do

The French lady and the American man have already both left and so I don't need to do anything for them, but I desperately need to find some way to help my Dad and Giovannis men, the warehouses that they are in are the most heavily guarded by the Russians and even though we had anticipated this we hadn't anticipated how many men there would be to fight. 

"No way" I whisper when I finally realise I can help. 

Not only did I just find crucial information about what is actually kept in this warehouse but I also found out that I can control it

On the side of the room that I am on is where all of my men are but on the other side is where all Igor's men are and where they are standing also happens to be where a whole load of single man hand grenades are. But these aren't just any small grenades, these can be detonated by a computer which I can hack into. 

I type faster than I have ever typed before and in two minuets I have what I need

With one last smile I press enter and one explosion goes off then another then another and within 30 seconds the majority of the shooting stops. By what I can hear, and granted the explosion has affected my hearing dramatically, there are only about ten more of Igor's men alive in the warehouse but I don't have time to celebrate that because I know that more men will be arriving soon. 

I go back to the footage of Freya who is still climbing up the stairs but looks considerably worse. She crawls up on step at a time, leaving a trail of blood. 

I have to go get her. I stand up and run out the door and begin running up the stairs

"Lia!" I hear Lucas shouting from behind me, "we have to go now more men will be coming!" 

I shout back while still running, "I know but iv'e got to get Freya"

I hear Lucas say something but I don't know what it was, my ears are still ringing and there are still gun shots being fired. 

I continue running up the stairs but realise that someone is behind me, I quickly turn around but Lucas just runs past me

"Come on" he shouts now 10 steps in front of me 

I inwardly scream at how much faster and fitter he is than me but I continue to run even as my legs feel as if they are on fire 

"Freya!" I shout when I finally see her, she doesn't move and the worst runs through my head, I run to her side and slowly her eyelid slowly opens then shuts again. 

"Lia more men are coming" Lucas says seriously 

"We're not leaving her behind" I say staring at him, daring him to disagree, "come on help me" I say and try to grab one of Freya's arms to put around my shoulder

"No you'll be too slow" Lucas says then picks up Freya as if she weighs nothing, "lets go" he says and starts off down the stairs with me following close behind.

Sorry about the insane lack of update. Long story short, my friend found out about this book and I am still so sure that she read it even though she said that she wouldn't and I was so obsessed with the fact that anything I wrote she was going to read and then take the piss out of so I was like no no way so I just didn't update. But then lately iv'e been thinking that I don't care anymore and so I just decided to carry on writing because I want this story to end instead of never being completed. So yeah, thanks for reading and sorry about the wait (I hate it when writers do this on a story I'm reading but I was an idiot and did it as well, for which I apologise).
