Though having masculine features, Ketō doesn't really have a gender. They are believed to be an alien lacking any true gender. As such, they'll go by either set of pronouns, mainly since they don't really care.
Ryomei found Ketō after a report of a huge light beam was made in his area. After checking it out, he found Ketō laying in a rice field, partially submerged in a pond. Afterward, Ketō explained to Ryomei that they were an alien, something he still doesn't quite believe.
