Promise of Thousands of Years

A soft hum

Low waking of a wistful sigh

Strung out,
fingertips drifting across strings

Playing gently,
with only silence to witness

Stretched thin, and far, played, flicked, and pulled,

Creating sound

Distant and long, a cry or moan

Overwhelmingly leaving a scar

An incessant, lingering ache

Hanging on a ledge

Dangling on a cliff

For an answer

Always waiting

Waiting

For a sign

For him

Waiting felt like eternity

Forever

A song to call out

To bring back

To save

What was once lost

What was, who was-who is still

Loved

Cherished

To give that person a home

A beacon of light

Guiding a soul

Thousands of years

Or more

If forever wasn't long enough

He would wait

Would always wait,

For something, for anything

A sign

For him

Even using blood, sweat,

Or his tears

And continue to play Inquiry

A silent promise to himself

One he would keep,

Keep until the very end,

Even if the end never came

For him

For him

Waiting, longing, yearning-

Loving

And hoping

Hope against hope

For that soul, that special someone

For Their life and their heart

For Their essence, their smile..

He would play the song of Inquiry

For however long it would take, as long as needed

He would play until he bled

Stop

Play again

And wait.
