Alexis watched, amazed, as the boy in front of her consumed multiple sandwiches with ease. According to Diego, this was their lost brother - Number Five. She still wasn't sure why he was a teenager, not an adult like the rest. He sighed.
"What's the date? The exact date."
"The 24th," said Vanya.
"Of what?"
"March," she added.
"Good."
Luther cleared his throat indignantly.
"So, are we gonna talk about what just happened?"
Five said nothing, continuing to make another sandwich.
"It's been 17 years."
This caught his attention.
"It's been a lot longer than that," he scoffed, and disappeared in a flash of light, to reappear behind Luther. Alexis looked over in shock at Diego, who shrugged his shoulders.
"I haven't missed that," Luther sighed.
"Where'd you go?" Diego started.
"The future. It's shit, by the way."
Klaus punched the air.
"Called it!"
"I should've listened to the old man. You know, jumping through space is one thing, jumping through time is a toss of the dice."
He looked at Klaus, who was sitting on the table.
"Nice dress."
"Oh, well, danke!" replied Klaus.
Alexis smiled, and Luther still looked confused.
"Wait, how did you get back?" asked Vanya.
Five looked up.
"In the end, I had to project my consciousness forward into a suspended quantum state version of myself that exists across every possible instance of time."
He said this in the same way one might explain their route to the store.
"That makes no sense," Diego said.
"Well, it would if you were smarter."
"He's right," Alexis agreed, restraining an angry Diego.
Five seemed to notice her for the first time.
"Who's this?" he said, not really looking up from his sandwich.
"I'm Alexis."
He nodded, apparently requiring no explanation as Luther spoke again.
"How long were you there?"
"Forty-five years. Give or take."
"So what are you saying? That you're 58?"
"No, my consciousness is 58."
Five glared at Luther.
"Apparently, my body is now 13 again."
He made another sandwich.
"Wait, how does that even work?" said Vanya, slightly desperately. Alexis met her gaze, equally confused.
"Delores kept saying the equations were off. Eh. Bet she's laughing now."
"Delores?" questioned Vanya.
Five said nothing, but picked up a nearby newspaper, the front cover displaying an article on Sir Hargreeves' death.
