Levi's POV:

I shook my leg incessantly. I twirled my spoon around my untouched soup till it pretty much whisked to broth, my gaze aggressively concentrated on it. Even so, I could see that Hange and Erwin were both staring at me with a bothered look as I excused them to sit by myself. It was unusual for me to sit alone, though I always showed foul conduct in front of them. I secretly enjoyed their company.

There was no room for appetite tonight. I was lost in a trance, flurried over Mayuka's current wellbeing. Dinner was basically pointless.

Draw back to a few hours and it was also a summary of wasted time. I was hollering at Erwin, forgetting all about the recommendation that was due to arrive soon. Mayuka had passed out in my arms during our journey back, likely because of shock. I was worried for her, not just her physical state, but her mentality too. Shit like murder and arson does things to you, especially because it's her loved ones, and I'm speaking from experience. Erwin prevented me from seeing her until things had simmered down, and the case had been thoroughly filed to the MPs. I've been reminded that my mission is still on the line as well, albeit postponed.

My mind wandered off to ponder about what had happened in the months I had not met her. What chain of events could've possibly led to the murder of her whole family? Why was Kenny at the scene?

But when the brainstorm kindled even more questions, it did more destruction than gain, and I was just tired. Nevertheless, there was no way I will be able sleep tonight without knowing she's somewhere near alright. Plus, it wasn't like I can sleep anyways, so fuck Erwin's orders.

I left my bowl at the canteen's sink and made my way towards the medical ward.

As I reached one of the nurses working the evening shift, they inform me that she's been ushered to her chambers. It appeased me just a bit to know that she was unscathed. Now my attention speedily alters to her internal state.

I stood outside the room for an oddly long time, suddenly remembering where we last left off. Our relationship was far from intimate, and if anything, still awkward. Despite that, it was too late to back down.

Here goes.

"Mayuka." I knocked.

I thought that maybe her voice was too soft to be heard like back then, so I repeated myself,  "Hey, Mayuka."

I knocked several times again, yet no answer. I was already losing my cool at the flashing notions of her passing out alone.

"Mayuka, can you hear me! Are you in there?"

And when she didn't answer my slams for the third time, I barged into her room, kicking open the door that was thwarting her from everyone. Frankly, I was erased from the thoughts of consent as my knuckles were starting to go red from knocking so much. Clouded with impatience, the first thing I did was scream at her when I saw her by the window.
