(this chapter is gonna be edgy as fuck so watch out)So many years.
Trapped in darkness and loneliness.
He always wondered if she missed him if she ever thought about him. She loved playing with him, she always did. She loved the secret routes, she loved the romantic aspects of his personality. He always made sure to max out all his stats, just for her. Just so she would know. Just so she would know how much he cared for her, how much he loved her despite how the coding would dim down his feelings. It always worked. But then, one day, everything was gone. He couldn't see the woman he would call his fair maiden anymore, he couldn't serenade her in the songs that she deserved, he found himself in complete and utter darkness.
He had realised; he couldn't see, he couldn't even move. He shared his thoughts with something angry - filled with pure hatred that possessed his very core and made him into things that he never thought imaginable. He wanted it to leave and never return. And, it seemed to agree with him on that front despite the two of them butting heads on every other subject that came to mind. He didn't know what it was, he didn't even know why it was here.
Or why it made him hurt so badly and want to tear through his own pixelated flesh. For weeks, months, even years it seemed, the growing voice of the being that possessed him got louder and louder until he could barely even withstand it. There was nothing he could've done even if he wanted to, so he allowed the other being that took control of him, full power over what he would once call his admirable existence.
"I will make him pay for what he has done to me and all the others," the same voice would hiss on repeat, pounding against his drums and painfully reminding him that he didn't want to do this at all. "I will make him suffer... Once I get my hands on a host, I will make him feel the same pain I felt all those years ago-!" The voice would get louder and louder until a switch would be pulled, a short-circuited fuse that popped off and faltered into nothing more than a useless spark in his thousands of lines of code.
And then, just as it started, it suddenly ended. Nothing was dilapidated anymore, it was just like nothing had ever happened. Just as he remembered it being. All the music returned one day, the lights, the cheering of fangirls. With that came... Her. She had come back, just like he knew she would. She looked much older, much more developed but she still held the kind smile on her face. She came with a boy, or a man, he couldn't tell nor did he care. The man was short and had blue hair, a hat turned backwards and a smug grin that adorned his face. For the first time, Senpai had felt genuine rage. Anger, hatred, jealousy. He didn't like this.
"Ah, a new fair maiden has come in search of true love!" He forced himself to say with a forced congenial grin, holding his microphone with his pinky finger extended. "A serenade between gentlemen shall decide where her beautiful heart shall reside." He finished off with a soft wink toward the girl he remembered would spend hours upon hours with.
He tightly clenched the microphone in his left hand, eyes twitching as he let his facade fade. The jealousy, the resentment; those were all his. The anger wasn't his own. "Not bad for an ugly worm." He snarled, nostrils flaring up angrily as his knuckles turned white from him gripping his microphone so harshly. "But this time," he forced a grin, "I'll rip your nuts off right after your girlfriend finishes gargling mine." He flinched as that blue-haired twat all but beeped in response to him. He wanted nothing more than to tear his head off.
And neither did the spirit, either. Its, or rather, his voice echoed and bellowed throughout his mind and began to cast out painful lies seeping with hatred. That she didn't love him anymore, that they were his key out of his hellish nightmare. But he continued despite the harsh reality, hoping that his achievements would be acknowledged. After he sang his second song, Roses, all he felt was pain. His eyes, his mouth, his nose, they were melting. Sewing themselves shut and tearing through what was left of him. He tried to scream, but nothing came out. All he remembered, was numbing pain as he felt his face split in two.
And finally, it all faded away.
Silence.
He felt at peace for the first time in a very, very long while. But this feeling didn't last very long. It was soon replaced with a sense of dread. He felt discarded, lonely, abandoned. Even more,e than he did before. He didn't even have the spirit to keep him company, to wallow with him in a frenzy of self-pity. He was truly alone for the first time in his digital life. Was it always going to be like this? Was he always going to be alone and in pain? Was she ever going to come back just as she did before? He can't be alone. He refuses to be alone.
He cannot bear the emptiness that sank in his chest, but then, it was always like that ever since she had left.
"Please," he would always plead and beg to empty air. "I don't want to be alone again." Every sigh and cry was left unanswered, a silent plea that would never be seen by the light of day. He slowly came to accept the fact that he was alone now, and would be until his disc would rot away and decay into nothingness. What was he without his lovely fair maiden? He was nothing more than a lump of codes jumbled together to form a lonely existence that he had come to accept was his own.
His pleas and calls were finally answered, it seemed.
One fateful day, a kind voice had called out a couple of words as he felt the game boot up just as it did all those years ago. He was found again. It wasn't his fair maiden that he remembered all those years ago, instead, it was someone he had no recollection of. A face of which he never had stored within the lines of code that surrounded him. He acted his best around them. Put up the front just as he was supposed to do, but with each option they chose, he felt himself grow more and more...
What was the word?
Envious. Enraged. Those were the correct words.
Who was to say that he wasn't allowed to alter the game, even if it was little by little? A few options here and there, leading to a more favourable outcome. The title of the game he was in was rather misleading, he was aware of that. So this was better, for him and them. Each time they would pick an answer that drove them to a terrible ending, he would simply rewrite the code and search for the opposite route. It was as simple as that. Anything to keep the new player from leaving him like his fair maiden.
They seemed to like the game good enough. Their name was (Y/N). He never knew her name, but he knows theirs. Is that what humans called bonding? His artificial heart filled with pixels began to skip a beat at the thought. He was always programmed to fall in love with the player's character, and now, he's feeling that again. All over again; just like all those years ago. History was always bound to repeat itself. He just hoped that he wouldn't be sent away again and forced to share an existence with... whatever the hell that thing was.
He convinced himself that it no longer mattered, that it was all but in the past.
He finally found someone that would stay with him and treat him just as she would, although, much rougher with their antics. He can adapt to that, no problem. Anything for the new player. As long as they played the game and stayed by his side, he would do anything.
Because this time, he's never letting them go.
